IPNwws-Monrovia: Hours after the annual address delivered by President George M. Weah, Margibi County Electoral District #2 Representative, Ivar K. Jones has described as “realistic” Monday’s Report by the President.
Providing a quick response to the President’s address, Rep. Jones indicated that the President presented the status of the Country’s economy, both incomes and expenditures and at the same time mentioning measures taken to resurrect the economy.
Jones is of the conviction that amidst the numerous challenges , especially, the COVID-19 , the government was able to achieved significant gains.
“ unlike the Ebola that hit only certain parts of Africa, but the Corona paralyzed the entire world, in the amidst of this deadly disease, the President kept his vision on trick that led to the government achieving significant gains” Jones said.
According to the Margibi Electoral District # 2 Representative, President Weah in his first annual address mentioned that during his Presidential period, he will ensure that every County is connected with pave road, and today according to Jones, the President reaffirmed such promised, which he said, signifies his commitment to connect the Counties.
“With respect to the road connectivity, I am very happy that my district, my County, District number 1, & 2 Margibi and District 6 Montserrado Counties will be benefiting from the 45 kilometers road from ELWA Junction to the Roberts International Airport” the Margibi Lawmaker added.
With respect to the fight against corruption,
Lawmaker Jones, indicated that , the establishment of a fast track corruption court, the removal of statute of limitations on corrupt acts, the introduction of permanent whistle-blower legislation and the right of the LACC to prosecute acts of corruption in the first instance which the President has called on the Legislature for time enactment, shows his commitment to combat corruption.
“ Those who say that this government is not Internationally recognized , the President listed a number of achievements with the help of International partners, ranging from loans, grants, capacity building and donations and most significantly, the IMF program that is now helping to restore confidence in our financial sector” he said.
The Margibi District number Two Legislator who joined the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change in 2020 said, the task at hands requires the collective efforts of all Liberians, so as to overcome the challenges.
He noted that the maintenance of the peace and stability the President spoke about, was achieved based on the collective efforts of all Liberians.
“ The President made the case on the issue of printing of new family of banknotes based on the advice of the Central Bank, We as Lawmakers will work with our financial brains in the House of Representatives, to ensure that what have been requested is executed in the best interest of our Country based on Plenary decision” Jones added.
The President’s address on Monday was in accordance with Article 58 of the Liberian Constitution, which mandates the President on the fourth working in January of each year to Report to the Legislature on the state of the Country with respect to income and expenditure.
