Turns Over 39 Homes to Residents
IPNEWS – Monrovia – President George Manneh Weah Wednesday, January 20, turned over additional 39 newly-built homes to Liberians.
These Liberians’ homes were destroyed months ago when fire gutted them which used to be in the Popo Beach Community of the Borough of New Kru Town.
The President, in 2019, had promised the Popo Beach’s victims that his government would construct 50 low cost homes for them as replacement of their lost homes. However, the 39 is an addition to the 50 he had promised. The 50 had previously been done and turned over to the people.
Donating the houses, the President said his vision is to ensure that Liberians benefit from his mission of transforming the country in all sectors.
The 39 homes were the second phase of the construction; the third phase is expected to begin in two or three months.
The President also took time to visit the Duala Market project, which in addition to the new houses, is being constructed by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), a project monitoring and implementing arm of the Liberian government.
According to construction workers on the Duala Market, the market will be ready within six months.
Construction of the new homes and other project is being supervised by LACE, which is headed by Pepci Quiwu Yeke.
Mr. Yeke provided additional pieces of information as it relates to the homes. According to him, at least 60 people will live in those new and modern homes.
He disclosed that the entire project, which has so far taken US$3M from the government’s coffer, is intended to make the faces of those Liberians, lit with smile again.
Some benefactors who were on hand to take delivery of keys, praised the President for fulfilling his promise to them.
