J. Fonati Koffa Wins Deputy Speaker Post

IPNews-Monrovia: Grand Kru County’s District No. 2 Representative, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has won the post of Deputy Speaker at the House ofRepresentatives(HOR). Rep. Koffa , who was sworn in immediately following the election, replaces Bong County Representative Prince Moye, who ascended to the Senate followinghis win of Bong County’s seat in the December 8th Special Senatorial Election.

Sixty-eight ballot papers out of the total House’s membership of 73, were casted, with three absences and two deceased.

From the count of ballots, Rep Koffa won with 45 votes; his closest challenger Lofa County’s Clarence Massaquoi, got 20 votes. The only female in the race, Rep. Moima Briggs Mensah of Bong County’s District #2, got two votes and one invalid vote.

In his acceptance speech, Rep. Koffa thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him.

Deputy House Speaker Koffa, called on members of the House of Representative to get back to doing the work of the people by enacting laws that will see the prosperity of Liberia.

He said it is an honor to serve the Liberian people and he is up and ready to perform the same.

Prior to the election, supporters of Cllr. Koffa believe that the Grand Kru County’s lawmarker was the best because of his credentials, temperament, and accessibility.”He is humble, accessible, and approachable; more importantly, he is courteous and gracious to his colleague Representatives and legislative staffers, and he relates to all irrespective of which party one is a member of,” one of them said.
