Breaking News! Ricks Institute Olu Menjay Resigns after Collapse

IPNews-Virgina Township, Liberia: The authoritative Independent Probe Newspaper has gathered that long-serving President of Ricks Institute, outside Monrovia, Rev. Dr. Olu Menjay, has tendered in his resignation.

According to inside Baptist sources, Rev. Dr. Menjay, tendered in his resignation Sunday, January 10, 2021, at the graduation of the Ricks Institute, in the Township of Virginia.

The resignation now sets the paste for further probe into handling of the Baptist Convention and Rick Institute Assets while he served as president for both institutions, for nearly fifteen years, as source hinted IPNews.

It may be recalled, Rev. Dr. Menjay collapsed at the Washington Chapel, In Virginia, during the installation of his heavily feared contender Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, as President, Liberia Baptist Mission and Education Convention.

The incident took place minutes following the pronouncement by Dr. Reeves that “his leadership will leave ‘no stone unturned against the fight of impunity within the LBMCE”.

Rev. Dr. Menjay was immediately rushed at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, and later taken to Accra, Ghana, for further medical stabilization.

Following the declaration by Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, the Baptist disciplinarian constituted a six men transitional team headed by Deacon Nathaniel Blama, of First Baptist Church, Oldest Congo.

The transitional team according to report, has made tremendous recoveries and are about now compiling its report for onward submission to the President, Liberia Baptist Mission and Educational Convention, headed by Dr. Samuel Reeves.

Prior to holding of the 46 midyear Session and subsequent elections on Saturday,October24,2020, Dr. Olu Menjay and Rev. Smauel B. Reeves for years had been at each other thoat since the Nimba County Covention Of the LBMEC nearly ten years ago.

According to Baptist insiders, Rev. Samuel B. Reeves, felt betrayed after his long time friend in last minutes rush announced his candidacy as President of the Liberia Baptist Mission and Educational Convention following prior assurances of his fullest support for a Samuel Reeves, candidacy.

The move according to Baptists brought huge division within the LBMEC with many accusing the outgoing president Olu Menjay, of singlehandedly running the Convention.

Rev. Dr. Reeves, is currently presiding and Senior Pastor of the Providence Baptist Church, at conner of Ashmu and Center Streets.

The Preston University Theological veteran defeated his main contenders, Rev. Dr. Olu Menjay, Rev. Max Johnson and Rev. Dr. Benjamin Yaneh, 89 to 48 and 42 votes respectively.

A total of 180 registered members of the LBMEC participated in the elections.

Cross section of Baptists and observers told IPNews minutes after the conduct of the elections that the 46 extraordinary session of the LBMEC was one of the best in terms of conduct and adherence to all rules governing the election of officers of the Baptist Convention.

It may further be recalled, earlier this year some disenchanted members of the Baptist compact proceeded to court to compile its outgoing President Rev. Dr. Olu Menjay to hold elections at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Their quest was subsequently rejected by the Board of Managers of the LBMEC on grounds that there was a need for cool heads due to the national emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Board of Managers further agreed to hold series of consultations on the matter with the desire goal of keeping harmony within the Baptist Convention.

The aggrieved group calling itself ‘Concern Baptist”, called for the unconditional sept-down of the president, Liberia Baptist Mission and Educational Convention, Rev. Dr. Olu Q. Menjay.

According to the group’s spokesman John Toby, Rev. Dr. Menjay, stayed as president of the Baptist Mission and Education Covention has expired.

Toby told newsmen in Monrovia that since the 18 April Dr. Menjay was expected to turnover the affairs of the convention to the Secretary of the Convention but has since refused.

He maintained that they will continued their protest until Dr. Olu Menjay vacate the LBMEC.

When IPNews contacted Rev. Dr. Menjay, he hangout the phone but earlier told our reporter in his usual style that IPNews can go ahead and write whatever they want.
