Town Chief Seizes Ballot Box ..As NEC Launches Investigation

IPNews-Monrovia: The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission Davidetta Browne Lansannah has disclosed voting could not take place in four different polling place across the Country due to challenges.

Providing the first post Election update today at the Headquarters in Sinkor, Madam Lansannah named Upper and Lower Nimba, Gbarpolu and Grand Gedeh Counties as Counties where the NEC did conduct polls.

Providing reasons for not conducting the polls, specifically, In Gbarpolu County, at a polling center in Electoral District 3, at the Nomodatanau Town Hall, the NEC boss disclosed that the Town Chief seized the ballot boxes thereby denying eligible voters the right to exercise their franchise
Noting that investigation into the matter will be conducted soon as they have plan to send in the area an assessment team to find out the actual facts surrounding the situation.

In both Upper Nimba County in District 2 and 3 at the Tiapa Public School and Gbayee Public School the polls would not be conducted due to lack of polling staff to conduct the Elections.

Additionally, She revealed that In Electoral District 3 Grand Gedeh County , specifically at Bargblor Public School, the NEC boss pointed out that 430 people also did not vote, because some citizens told their kinsman not to vote on grounds that there was different County name indicated on the ballot box instead of Grand Gedeh, even though she said the stick place on the box was for 15001, Grand Gedeh Code.

At the same time in Lower Nimba, Electoral District 6, Tappita Memorial School, she stressed that two temporary staffs of NEC took home the ballot boxes for safe keeping even though the seal indicated on it were the same as the original ones.

In the wake of the challenges, the NEC chairperson assured the challenged Counties and districts that election will be conducted in those areas and results as well will be release to the public subsequently.

The NEC Chairperson at the same time disclosed that other manner incidents but was quick to mention that they were all handled appropriately.

She said polling opens at most of the centers on time while counting were also done transparently in-front of Party, Local and international observers as well as the media.

According to her copies of the tally sheets of the top two candidates in each area have already been presented to them in keeping with the elections laws.

Speaking further, the NEC chairperson disclosed that talling process across the Country will begin Today as such she used the occasion to warned people against early celebrations as the NEC is the only body charged legally with the responsibility to announce elections results provisional or final across the Country.

Meanwhile madam Lansannah praised all eligible voters for the peaceful manner and form in which they conducted themselves at the polls across Liberia.

She also thanked NEC workers and the joint security team for their level of hard work and coordination which saw the smoothness of the entire process.
