Restoring Order is a Duty LNP denies brutalizing students

Since the inception of  Gregory Coleman, as Commissioner, Liberian National Police the morale continue to be unabated with commitment and professionalism of Officers of the LNP noticeable by ordinary citizens across the country.

Director Coleman, has since maintained professionalism and discipline within the ranks of the police .

Classic of all was the handing of students rioters at the state run University of Liberia , when  protesting students at the University of Liberia (UL) on Monday, 20 November on Capitol Hill besieged the main campus demanding the resumption of registration.

Some students spoken to expressed surprise with the manner Officers of the Liberian National Police coordinated the movements of protesting students without intimidation and disregard to the rule of law.

“ The composure of the Liberian National Police during the protest was unprecedented. In the past Police will run in and beat you all in total disregard to the rights of the students as guarantee under the universal right of peaceful assembly.  

 

It can be recalled Police spokesman Sam Collins speaking on the incident denied claims of some misguided individuals of  brutality meted against the students.

During the period, riot officers at the LNP arrested some purported persons calling themselves students who were stone throwing individuals at UL on Monday during protest over the closure of registration process for the ongoing academic semester, arresting both prospective graduates and non- graduating students. The campus has seen days of unrest of closure of registration process, while prospective graduates also oppose high graduation fees.

Police Spokesman Sam Collins confirms the arrest on the Capitol Hill campus of the University of some unlawful persons, and denied brutalizing any students.

It was observed that police on the campus to restore calm as part of its mandate, amidst brutality claims in some quarters.

Police the world over are under obligation to restore calm in situations as they unfold and to arrest anyone that puts threat to stability of the state.
