REP. KOGAR CLASSIFIES GANTA CITY MAYOR’S OFFICE AS ‘KITCHEN HALL’; blames legislative Caucus of Nimba County

REP. KOGAR CLASSIFIES GANTA By: ARCHIE SEIBOB YINI
IPNews-Ganta: Controversial Nimba County District#5 Representative, Samuel G. Kogar has described as a ‘Kitchen Hall’, office of the City Mayor of Ganta.
According to the lawmaker, the building housing offices of the city council does not have the virtue that conforms to modern standard.
Speaking over the weekend at the city council office,  Rep. Kogar said it is unfortunate to have such a facility being used by the city authority in the only largest commercial hub within Nimba.
“This place does not resemble the city of Ganta”, Kogar indicated.
He revealed that Ganta is one of the swinging places in Nimba next to the County’s political capital Sanniquellie, therefore it deserves a better city council office than what it currently has.
Ganta is considered as a fastest growing city within Liberia after the country’s capital, Monrovia.
As a transit point, it is situated between two of Liberia’s neighboring countries including the French Republics of Guinea and the Ivory coast.
It serves as the direct face of Nimba from Central Liberia and hosts many commercial activities.
Several top Liberian business people including Prince P. S. Howard, CEO of Alvino Hotel, Mr Phareze L. Dekpa of Dek-ta INC, Samuel N. Brown and Mr Tomah Seh Flod of Jungle Water Company all have branches of their respective businesses operating within the city.
But in spite of the booming trade activities leading to the generation of huge revenue for the country, Ganta is yet far from getting some facilities to give it a real 21st Century city status.
Modern city hall and up to date city office are some of those basic structures still absent from Ganta, just to name a few.
Hon. Kogar in a very strong tone noted that it is regretful to have  such area with magnificent structures but still lacks good city council office.
Even though the city contributes a lot to the economy of the country, Ganta, like other cities in Liberia has not been captured in national budget.
The city completely depends on municipal taxes from business people operating within its territorial limit to undertake development, something which makes it difficult for the city government to undertake major developmental initiatives.
Sometimes, the collection of these taxes even becomes more challenging because other people see their compliance as non-essential and total loss to their businesses.
However, Mr Kogar has called on the city authority through Mayor Amos N. G. Suah to make necessary requisition through the County Legislative Caucus for onward submission to the national legislature.
He also blamed the legislative Caucus of Nimba County for not doing anything to improve the city.
According to him, they at the national legislature have the power to make the necessary budgetary appropriations to aid Ganta city.
“You should also be able to blame us the lawmakers, the appropriating power lies in our hands. We should be able to ensure that the county we represent is adequately presented to the government of Liberia” Kogar added.
He believes Ganta stands to benefit a whole lot in terms of revenue generation if there is a modern city council office or city hall.
He added: “people who want to get married and do other things can come to the city hall or city office and pay money to help the city government build and clean the place”.
He admonished Mayor Suah and his team to workout modalities to submit Bill Of Quantity (BOQ), to have Ganta city hall reflected in national budget.
The district 5 lawmaker vowed to also work with his colleague, hon. Jeremiah Koung in whose district the city is situated to see get a better city hall.
In another development, Rep. Samuel Kogar is calling on commerce inspectors of the county to discharge their duties in a professional manner.
He said the positions they occupy should not be seen as a fishing expedition, but rather it should be considered a job to adequately serve the people of Nimba.
He wants them understand that each of them has a responsibility to use their offices for the forward March of Liberia and not for personal gains.
“The job that has been given to you is not a job for fishing expedition” Kogar noted.
Representative Samuel G. Kogar didn’t actually stern the root of his argument but many residents including business practitioners in Ganta have been choked by these ministry of commerce inspectors with unacceptable acts including allegedly extorting monies from them.
