IPNews-Monrovia: The family of the late Charles Baxter is calling on the Liberia National Police to speedily investigate and bring to justice individuals responsible for the mysterious disappearance of their son (Tom Chuku Taylor) during a land dispute in the Fendall area.

Tom Chuku Konah is a resident of Pipeline, but was contracted by the Baxter on August 6, 2020 to dig a septic on the land in question at which time a man ransacked broke out and was later discovered missing.

Speaking to a team of reporters in Monrovia, one of the administrators of the Charles Baxter Estate, Emmanuel G. Baxter, explained “The guys (alleged gang) started to beat on people in the process, the boy (Konah) try to escape from them and ran into a neighbor house, but they forcibly brought him out of the house from the home and took him away to an unknown destination.

He linked Abu Boakai Kpaka of leading the gang and master minding the incident that led to the disappearance of the boy in questioned, an allegation Kpaka denied.

According to Kpaka, he has a property (land) within the Fendall belt that has a boundary with the Charles Baxter Estate and portion of it was sole by the Baxter family while he (Kpaka) was in a conflict with his brother.

“I have told people that even it can be George Weah that buy land from them illegally, I will retrieve it (land) using the law,” Kpaka said. Adding that the Baxter family is claiming 900 acres of land in the area that means he is claiming half of Louisiana. But for me, I only get title for 214 acres of land and my deeds are with me. If he feels he owns half of Louisiana, let us go to the court.”

Kpaka mentioned that the 214 acres of land was purchased by his late grandfather (Kemu) in Louisiana challenging the Baxter’s to show legitimacy of the 900 acres they are claiming to have.

When contacted the Baxter family concerning how they got the 900 acres of land, Emmanuel G. Baxter, one of the administrators told reporters that the land was also given to them by their late grandfather Charles Baxter clarifying that the land is 605.6 acres and not 900 acres as mentioned by Kpaka.

It can be recalled that during the opening of the March A. D. 2020, Term of Court the President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) Cllr. Tiawon S. Gongloe mentioned that the Judiciary Branch of Government is charged with the responsibility of resolving disputes over land.

Cllr. Gongloe said the legal institution should prioritize land cases in the country and hear them speedily in order to prevent future conflicts or threats.

He stressed that over the years, land issues have been the cause of serious conflicts in Liberia thus resulting to the loss of lives and the destruction of properties.

But according to research, about 30 percent of cases at the courts are land cases. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia also alarm over the growing wave of land issues across the country and if not carefully look into could unstable the country.
