Over Excess10bn LRD Banknotes Printing, Weeks, Others Fate To Be Decided August 26!

IPNews-Monrovia: At long last, the presiding Judge of Criminal Court “C” is expected to render judgment into the alleged missing LRD$16 billion dollars banknotes. Judge Gbeisay August 26, 2020 verdict into the matter will determine the fate of former Center Bank of Liberia Governor Milton Weeks, David M. Farhat, Melisa Emeh, Kollie Tamba and Elsie Dossen Badio over their role played in the printing of addtional ten billion Liberia dollars without legislative approval.

The decision will either lead to their conviction or acquittal from the crimes: theft of Property, Economic sabotage, Fraud on the Internal Revenue of Liberia, Misuse of Public Money, Criminal Conspiracy and Criminal Facilitation that were drawn against them by the Grand Jury for Montserrado County.

This follow the resisting of oral and documentary evidence adduce by both prosecution and defense counsels last Friday, August 14, 2020.

During final arguments on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, Government lawyer contended that Co-defendant Milton Weeks alone with the CBL Board of Governors without any authorization from the legislature printed L$13,004,750,000 banknotes instead of the approved LD$10,359,750,000, amounting to an unaccounted sum of LD$2.6 billion.

Cllr. Garlarwolo argued that the intent of the printing of the excess L$10billion by the board members was to corrupt the country and not to replaced mutilated banknotes as claimed by the CBL former executives and as such the Court should find them guilty as they were never authorized to print the L$10billion which is the center of their indictment..

In resistance, Co- defendant Milton Weeks legal counsel in person of Cllr. Abraham Sillah argued that the legislature authorized the printing of the additional 10billion, based on numinous decisions and communication.

He indicated that the Board of Governors understood that the communication dated July 19, 2020 granted authorization to completely replace the remaining mutilated banknotes on the market was an authority to go ahead and print the additional L$10.5 billion.

Cllr. Sillah further added that the former Governor Milton received a positive feedback as such the CBL went ahead in the interest of avoiding an economic shock to sign the contract that led to the printing of the said amount.

Regarding the excess money printed, Cllr. Sillah said the excess money was to cover transportation cost in the tone of USD$433,898.14 in excess of the originally charged by Crane Currency (10.3billion) therefore, the court should acquit Weeks on grounds that the states did not also prove her case beyond reasonable doubts.

Accordingly; Co-defandant David M. Farhat, Elsie Dossen Badio and Kollie Tamba were represented by Cllr. Glorious Musu Scott, Cllr. Framer G. Stubblefield and Cllr. Slunsio E. Nigba.

Cllr. Musu Scott argued that their clients are not guilty of the above crimes on grounds that they have no knowledge on the charges levied against them by the state.

The former Chief Justice further pleaded with the court to set her clients free and return their bond.
