IPNews-Monrovia: The Risk Communication Pillar of Incident Management System-IMS, in collaboration with Internews have intensified intervention support to the fight against COVID-19.
Today, Internews donated much needed assorted items to the Risk Communication Pillar, including, rain gears, such as rain coat, rain boot, back pad, starch cards and transportation support, for all fifteen counties Risk Communication Focal persons.
Presenting the items, USAID Liberia Media Development program manager-Internews in Liberia, stated that the logistical materials presented to the Ministry of Heath is part of ongoing efforts to containing COVID-19.
Jefferson Massah, stated that the Materials donated are intended for used by County Health Promoters or Risk Communications Focal persons at the county level.
Items donated include: 15 sets of rain-gear , 15 boots, 15backbags and 17 megaphones to enhance the work of the 15 County Health Promoters across the country.
Already , Internews under the USAID Liberia Media Development program is providing support to 30 community radio stations spread throughout Liberia to broadcast daily information about COVID-19 Prevention.
Additionally, more than 30 rural and urban journalists are enrolled into Internews Health media programme code name ” Responsible Heath Reporting Fellowship” .
Massah said the programme is to built the capacity of Media personals in reporting accurate media reporting on COVID-19 by narrowing down the misinformation gap regarding the coronavirus situation in Liberia.
In a related news, Internews is currently providing support for the Message Material Development and the central command center of the Risk Communication pillar in reshaping various targeted intervention massages weekly.
Receiving the items, Health Minister and Chair of the Incident Management System , Dr. Wilhemina Jallah, thanked Internews for the donation and lauded the continued support of the USAID support project in enhancing the operations of the Risk Communication Pilar.
Dr. Jallah, stated that the donation was significant to closing one of the major gaps experienced by the pillar throughout the response.
She said with the items, especially rain gears, County focal persons could now enable Risk Comnunication monilizers move between counties in aggressively engaging communities in hot spots across Liberia.
For his part, Chester A. Smith, Sr., the Deputy Risk Communication Pillar Lead, on behalf of the pillar Lead Hon. Eugene L. Nagbe, Minister of Information, lauded the tremendous support of Internews to the pillar and call on other organization follow the workings and support partnership of Internews.
He extended thanks and appreciation to the Internews USAID family, especially Internews country Representative,Lien Bach for the collaboration and support.
