IPNEWS: Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah has disclosed that the Liberian Government, particularly the Executive branch, has deep interest in the allegation of bribery linking some members of the Executive to the ongoing removal of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, urging the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission to speedily investigate the matter.
As the matter is before the LACC, the MICAT Boss expressed deep concern on behalf of the Executive, noting that the government stands firm to getting to the bottom of the accusation and is waiting to hear from the LACC as they are gearing up to ascertain the facts into the matter.
Speaking Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at the MICAT regular press briefing, the Chief Spokesperson of the Liberian Government informed the anti-graft institution to feed the Executive relative to their findings as they embark on weeding out the truth so that the public will be abreast about the reality surrounding such a grave allegation.
“So, we are concerned, the Executive is looking up to them. We want to know the facts surrounding what has been said. It has been said that two entities from the Executive provided money. We are very concerned about that”, Minister Piah noted, as he commented on the current information circulating in some quarters that the Ministry of Transport and Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation being the key funding entities in the removal saga of Speaker Koffa at the House of Representatives.
He emphasized that if anyone from the Executive is found culpable, the President will act accordingly, as he cites the reason why the administration is calling on the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission to get to the bottom of this matter.
Meanwhile, Minister Piah wants all anti-graft institutions in Liberia to desist from appeasing the public through quick press releases, recommending that before they put out any information, they must have facts and evidence to back their communication.
In its recent press statement, Piah noted, the LACC mentioned the Ministry of Transport and Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation are the sources of the US$750 USD thousand to some members of the House of Representatives who are seeking the removal of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.
He further recommended that sometimes it is prudent to do โ€œyour investigation, access your findings before you inform the public,โ€ advising that they should desist from a quick conclusion into such matters because this may not auger will for them.
He added that while it is true that they may want to impress the public about their fight against corruption, they should avoid any impression and should do their work accordingly.
