LACC Opens Investigation Into ‘Rebel’ Lawmakers US$25K Bribery Scam

—Formally Informs House of Representatives

IPNEWS: The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has officially launched a comprehensive investigation into serious bribery allegations linked to the proposed ousting of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable J. Fonati Koffa. These allegations have surfaced alongside rising worries about corruption within the legislative branch, attracting considerable public attention and scrutiny.

The objective of the LACC’s investigation is to reveal the truth behind these accusations, which claim that improper financial inducements of US$15,000 may have been offered to House members to sway their votes on the Speaker’s removal. As the agency tasked with fighting corruption in Liberia, the LACC is dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability within the public sector.

As the inquiry progresses, it will be closely observed by a range of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, media representatives, and the general public, all of whom are invested in the fight against corruption in Liberia’s political sphere. The results of this investigation could have significant implications for the future of the House of Representatives and the governance of the country overall.

Recently, public attention grown on the ongoing report of bribery by some ‘rebel’ Lawmakers seeking to remove their Speaker saw the dash out of US15,000 to some Lawmakers for signing of a purported resolution.

Among those calling for LACC investigation, is Margibi County Senator, Nathaniel F. McGill, and current chairman of the CDC Caucus warn that LACC set a wrong precedence if failed to investigate the purported report of money exchanging hands to remove Speaker Fonati Koffa as Speaker of the House of Representative.
