IPNEWS: President Joseph N. Boakai is urging members of the Liberian Legislature to take swift stance to improving Liberia’s development.

The Liberian leader speaking upon arrival from the ‘Holy Seal’, underscored the vital role members of the Legislature particularly the House of Representative in the advancement of Liberia’s development agenda.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai called on the Liberian legislature to maintain peace and Unity as an essential need for ongoing development across the country.

Speaking at the Thanksgiving service on Sunday, October 20, 2024, the Liberian Leader described his visit to Rome, Italy, as a significant moment and great opportunity for Liberia in their diplomatic reform agenda .

While in Italy, President Boakai addressed the World Food Forum Summit on October 14, 2024, highlighting the nation’s commitment to food security and sustainable agricultural practices.

During his address, the President elaborated on the ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes food production and security. He urged the global community to collaborate in tackling hunger and enhancing food security, emphasizing the urgent need for unified action in these critical areas.

The President expressed optimism that commitments from international investors will lead to significant economic opportunities for Liberia.

According to him, an example of this renewed confidence was demonstrated when ground was broken for a solar power project and a $700 million hydro expansion initiative before his departure. The projects, backed by institutions like the World Bank and the African Development Bank, signal a strong commitment to sustainable development and job creation in Liberia.

The president disclosed that the visit also featured a productive bilateral meeting with the FAO’s Director General, where both parties agreed to enhance cooperation. The FAO pledged to support Liberia’s agricultural development plan, titled “Liberians Feed Yourselves,” indicating a strong commitment to assist in local food production initiatives.

A notable highlight of the trip was the audience with His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican. The Pope, a spiritual leader to over 1.5 billion Catholics globally, acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the Vatican and Liberia, which dates back to 1927. The Catholic Church has significantly contributed to Liberia’s socio-economic development through education, healthcare, and humanitarian efforts.

In addition to discussions with FAO representatives, the President engaged with heads of international organizations and Italian officials, including the Prime Minister.

These meetings focused on fostering investment and assistance for Liberia, aiming to strengthen economic ties and support development initiatives.

The President’s remarks underscored the importance of the press as a catalyst for change, advocating for truth and accountability. By showcasing the resilience and achievements of the Liberian people, the media can help counter negative stereotypes and foster a culture of transparency that is crucial for a thriving democracy.

At the forum, President Boakai presented Liberia’s ARREST Agenda, with a focus on increasing food production and reducing the country’s reliance on imports.

The president highlighted the government’s agricultural plan, “Liberians Feed Yourselves,” which aims to empower local farmers and boost domestic food production.

Following his address, the FAO pledged to assist Liberia in implementing this plan, underscoring a strong partnership in tackling food security challenges.

During his visit to Rome, President Boakai also held meetings with officials from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Italian Government, as well as private investors.

These talks were centered on attracting investments to enhance Liberia’s infrastructure and energy sectors.
