LACC conducts a three-day anti-corruption training….

IPNEWS: The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) conducts a three-day anti-corruption training for personnel from integrity institutions and the judiciary.

The training is focused on legislation and accountability instruments with the aim of building capacity and promoting transparency in governance.

With the support of the United Nations Development Programme and funding from the United Nations Peace building Fund, the training is part of a larger project titled “Empowering citizens and communities to foster social accountability and transparency in governance and public service delivery”.

Speaking on behalf of the LACC at the opening session, Ernest Hughes Vice-chair for executives explained that the  project seeks to enhance participants knowledge of the concept of corruption, transparency and accountability mechanisms, and existing anti-corruption frameworks, among others.

Hughes noted that the goal of the workshop is to educate participants on key corruption concepts and existing legal frameworks, foster inclusive citizens participation, and promote transparency and accountability within their communities.

“Over the next three days, we will review legislation such as the Whistleblower act, the Witness Protection act, the LACC act, the PFM act, the PPCC act, and we will also discuss accountability mechanisms such as Liberia’s asset declaration regime, the Code of Conduct, and the conflict of interest”,  Hughes added.

For his part, UNDP program Director Mosses Massa stressed the need for collaborative efforts in fighting corruption; urged participants to focus and learn from the training to be an agent of change in their various institutions and communities.

Meanwhile, the training runs from October 16th-18th, 2024 in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa county. By: Archie Boan
