The attention of EECAF is drawn to the escalating waste management crisis in Monrovia. It has reached alarming levels, posing a significant threat to public health, the environment, and overall quality of life.

Improper waste disposal, inadequate collection systems, and uncontrolled dumping have led to unsanitary conditions throughout the city, creating breeding grounds for disease-carrying vectors such as mosquitoes, rodents, and flies. The accumulation of solid waste has also contributed to the pollution of waterways, exacerbating the risks of waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and all relevant stakeholders must take immediate, coordinated action to address this crisis. Local government authorities, private sector partners, and communities must work together to develop a comprehensive waste management system.

This system must prioritize waste reduction, segregation, recycling, and proper disposal methods. Public education campaigns should be launched to encourage responsible waste disposal practices among residents and businesses.

Furthermore, robust enforcement mechanisms are needed to ensure compliance with waste management laws and regulations and to prevent illegal dumping. Investment in modern waste management infrastructure, including waste collection, sorting facilities, and sanitary landfills, is essential for creating a cleaner, healthier Monrovia.

This is a call to action: We must act now to prevent further environmental degradation and protect the health of our citizens.

CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL TOGETHER LET TAKE ACTION.
