“Focus on Your Education for a Brighter Future,” Speaker Koffa Urges Grand Kru Students

IPNEWS: The Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, see Cllr J. Fonati Koffa has urged students of Grand Kru County to remain focus in the pursuit of their academic sojourn if they must meet up with the challenges lying ahead.

Speaking during the induction ceremony of the leadership elect of the Grand Kru University Students Union (KUSU), the Grand Kur county District No. 2 Representative noted that leadership is not about personal gains but willingness to stand I. The gap for others.

“Always seek the interest of your colleagues in your community, village, county and nation, if you must be national leader setting an explanatory leadership role for the good of society.” Speaker Koffa intones.

He urged the new leadership of the students body to serve as mentor to young people of Grand Ku County, if the youth of the ciunty must deal with the complex challenges facing the county, including controversy with the county’s Legislative Caucus.

It can be called that the Grand Kru University Students Union was engulfed with an internal crisis forcing the students body to be dormant for several years prior to a resolution by the county’s Legislative Caucus under the chairmanship of Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa.

Those inducted into office to steer the affairs of the institution include:

Christopher N, Menneh, President, Patrick N. Wreh Vice President for Administration, Joseph Gelekan Vice President for Operations, Victor D. Doe Jr, Assistant Secretary, Matthew Gelekan Treasurer and Anthony Wleh Champlain.

It was reported recently that students in the county were facing difficulties due to the lack of qualified classroom teachers mainly at the senior High Division.

The report indicates that the few qualified teachers in the county are resigning and taking up jobs at the newly established Grand Kru Technical College.

Also speaking at the Grand Kru University Students Union (KUSU), induction ceremony, Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa, who also challenged the new leadership of the student’s body to serve as a bridge between the student community and the county caucus for the forward match of Grand Kru County.

According to him, despite the challenges people of the county were faced with over the years, the county continues to strive on the national scene on grounds that the elections of former President George Weah in 2017, former Senate Pro-Tempore’ Albert T. Chie,  and the election of Cllr J. Fonati Koffa as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, in 2024 were cleared manifestation of the county’s numerous successes on the national scene. 

Senator Numene Bartekwa revealed that the people of Grand Kru County could not make a comeback on the national scene after former President George Weah was defeated in 2023 elections but with the election of Cllr J. Fonati Koffa as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, signifies the county resilience in the Liberian political scene.

He lauded House Speaker Cllr J. Fonati Koffa and the County’s Legislative Caucus for their leadership roles played at resolving the internal crisis within the Grand Kru University Union that saw the ushering in of a new leadership headed by Christopher Menneh and others.

Serving as installing officer of the Grand Kru University Student Union, Mr Esmond Fordat, managing Director of National Transit Authority admonished youth of the county to always be self reliance instead of depending on others for hand outs.

According to him, young people needed to think outside the box by engaging things that will help improve their lives.

Also making remarks at the program former student leader of the Grand Kru Chapter at the State run University of Liberia and now Chief of Office Staff at the office of Senator Albert T. Chie, Atty Lavoisier Julu,  urged the new leadership of the County to be agent of change for the common interest of the youth of the county.

“Years ago I sat in the very seat, and know what it takes to be a student leader of this county, and encourage you all as new leaders of the student community to remain commitment and sincere to your colleagues to ensure they benefit from the fruits of your engagements.” Atty. July encouraged the newly installed leadership l.

He further pledged to work with the youth of the county in putting aside any differences for the common good of Grand Kur County.

For his part the President of Grand Kru University students Union Christopher Mnneh noted that as a diverse and vibrant community, comprised of individuals from various backgrounds, cultures, and disciplines.

It is this diversity that makes them strong, and it is our collective passion for learning and growth that will propel us forward.I am also reminded that we are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of Grand Kru County, and it is our responsibility to maximize this potential to create a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.According to him, to the end, our leadership is committed to advocate for the provision of more scholarships and financial aids to deserving students.

Christopher Manneh said education is the cornerstone of progress, and by investing in scholarship and financial aid programs, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to pursue their dreams, regardless of their Financial background.

However, we must also ensure that our scholarships are awarded in a fair and transparent manner. We must establish clear criteria and guidelines for eligibility, and we must have a robust system in place to monitor and evaluate applications. By doing so, we can maintain the integrity of our scholarship program and ensure that it benefits those who truly need it.In addition to scholarships, we must also prioritize accountability and transparency within our union.

In a brief remake the Vice President for Administration Mr. Patrick Wreh said he is deeply honored to have been inducted into office as the Vice President for Administration of the Grand Kru University Students Union.
