INL Donates Assorted Supplies to LACC

IPNEWS: The International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has provided a significant boost to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) by donating much-needed stationery and office supplies. This gesture, aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the LACC, was made during a ceremony at the Commission’s headquarters on Thursday, September 5, 2024. The donation was presented by INL Director, Madam Sally Schlegel, alongside U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, His Excellency Ambassador Mark Toner.

During the event, Ambassador Toner underscored the importance of fighting corruption in Liberia’s developmental trajectory, emphasizing that transparency and accountability are key drivers of progress. He reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to standing by Liberia in its fight against corruption and drug-related crimes. “Your efforts and sacrifices are vital to the advancement of transparency and accountability in Liberia, and the American government will remain a steadfast partner in this noble cause,” Ambassador Toner stated. He further acknowledged the dedication of LACC’s Commissioners and staff, expressing deep appreciation for their unwavering commitment.

Madam Schlegel, the INL Director, took the opportunity to highlight the longstanding collaboration between the INL and LACC. She shared that two LACC Commissioners had recently completed specialized training in Mexico, aimed at strengthening their capacity to tackle corruption. Encouraging the dissemination of knowledge gained from these training sessions, she remarked, “While we cannot train everyone, those who have the opportunity should pass the knowledge to others.”

Responding to the gesture, Cllr. Alexandra K. Zoe, the Executive Chairperson of the LACC, expressed sincere gratitude for the continued support from the U.S. Embassy and the INL. She emphasized the significance of the donated supplies in facilitating the Commission’s daily operations. “These supplies are essential tools that will enable our staff to perform their duties more effectively,” Cllr. Zoe said.

Cllr. Zoe also praised the visit and recognition of the Commission’s work as a source of inspiration for the LACC team, driving them to further intensify their efforts in the fight against corruption. She reaffirmed the LACC’s commitment to collaboration with the U.S. Embassy and expressed optimism for future program funding support from USAID, which could bolster the Commission’s investigations, prosecutions, public education, and international cooperation efforts.

The donation signifies yet another step in the strong partnership between Liberia and the U.S., highlighting the shared commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Liberia.
