‘Your Works Are Amazing’, U.S. Ambassador Toner Tells Health Minister Louise Kpoto

IPNEWS: It was an uneasy start to her work yet resilience remained the hallmark. Liberia’s Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, recently elected Vice Chair, WHO 74th Conference chair, embarked upon stratification of an anti-corruption drive by immediately ordering an investigation of authorities of the Margibi County Health Team, including stolen donated drugs by USAID and others.

Apparently, the world watch and waited!

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at a surprised visit, US Ambassador Mark C. Toner, Ambassador, United States of America near Monrovia, paid a courtesy call on Liberia’s Health Minister, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, on crucial matters of the Health System.

The meeting according to a release from the Ministry of Health was aimed at fostering collaboration and exploring of avenues for the reinforcing partnership and support of the US Government for Liberia’s Health sector.

During the discussion, both Ambassador Toner and Health Minister Kpoto, emphasized the importance of synergy and collaboration in addressing pressing health challenges.

Importantly, Dr. Kpoto expanded on Liberia’s health agenda, underscoring the need for concerted efforts to improve healthcare delivery and enhance resilience against all forms of health threats.

The current WHO Vice Chair, Dr. Kpoto alongside Ambassador Toner expressed optimism of greater potentials of impact in strengthening cooperation for the advancement public health outcomes across Liberia. The meeting was attended by representatives of the U.S. Embassy near Monrovia, USAID, WHO, UNICEF Liberia, UNFPA, Catholic Relief Services, Office of the First Lady, Republic of Liberia, International Rescue Committee, Africa CDC, Partners in Health, UNDP Liberia, The Global Fund, Last Mile Health, Breakthrough Action, among others, to which the US government supports as Liberia’s largest partners in its Health delivery.
