LRA Conducts Tax Clinic for EU Staffs in Liberia

IPNEWS: The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) successfully conducted an interactive and informative tax clinic with the European Union (EU) Delegation to Liberia on August 21, 2024.

This initiative, a joint effort between the LRA’s Government and Not-for Profit Division and Taxpayer Services Division, represents a significant step towards enhancing tax compliance and broadening the understanding of tax obligations among key stakeholders in Liberia.

The clinic was meticulously designed to provide the EU Delegation employees with in-depth knowledge on crucial tax topics and compliance obligations including withholding tax, understanding various tax payment mechanisms, and offering legal guidance on withholding and personal income tax.

Led by Assistant Commissioner for Government and Not-for Profit Division Eddie Howe, the LRA experts, delivered comprehensive information that catered to the specific needs and concerns of the EU Delegation staff. The interactive forum fostered an engaging environment where participants actively engaged, ask questions, and receive tailored advice from LRA, especially on personal income tax deductions.

The EU Delegation head expressed profound appreciation for the timely, relevant, and insightful tax education provided by the LRA. Madam Nona Deprex, praised the LRA for its commitment to fostering a greater understanding of Liberia’s tax system, noting that the information shared was not only relevant but also crucial for the EU Delegation’s operations in the country.

In reflecting on the successful collaboration, Mr. Howe stated, “We are delighted to have partnered with the EU Delegation for this tax clinic. This collaboration exemplifies our mutual dedication to fostering a tax-compliant culture and creating a supportive environment for business operations in Liberia.”

The LRA continues to demonstrate its commitment to public service by extending an open invitation to other entities, organizations (local and foreign), and individuals to participate in its free tax clinics and educational services. These initiatives are designed to breakdown tax-related processes, promote voluntary compliance, and empower taxpayers with the knowledge they need to meet their obligations confidently.
