IPNEWS: President Joseph N. Boakai on Thursday, July 18, 2024, donated assorted medical supplies to the maternity ward of the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Hospital, aimed at boosting the hospital’s ability to provide essential care to patients, particularly newborn, and mothers.
Speaking during the presentation of the items at the JFK Memorial Hospital in Monrovia, the Liberian President stated that the initiative is an acknowledgment of the challenges at JFK Hospital as well as other medical facilities.
The Liberian leader emphasized the need for support and enhancements in Liberia’s healthcare sector as a means of providing quality healthcare delivery to the citizenry.
However, President Boakai indicated that it has been observed that many patients were not settling their bills, which have led to some of them being held in the hospital for up to two months.
He stressed the need for the country to create a system that supports patients’ well-being while maintaining the hospital’s functionality effectively.
“This is a token to the children at least to know that someone cares” the Liberian leader noted as he presented the medical items to the management of the JFK.
Meanwhile, President Boakai disclosed that there are some containers of medical supplies that will be turned over to the Ministry of Health.
At the same time, the head of the Maternity ward at the JFK, Lauren Nyekan, expressed gratitude for the donation, adding that the contribution from the office of the President is timely and greatly appreciated.
She maintained that the materials are extremely useful to the operation of the hospital, especially in attending to patients in the maternity ward.
