LIBERIA – Internal Fight Rocks Liberia Scrap Dealers

By Prince Mathias Nagbe

The president of Liberia Scrap Buyers Association (LSBA), a breakaway group from the Liberia Scrap Dealers Association (LSDA), is calling for the resignation of the president of LSDA, Mr. Ayouba Kamara to resign.

Mr. Kalifa Sanoe, LSBA president, recently organized to coordinate the workings of scrap buyers in Liberia. Sanoe and associates accused Kamara of alleged corruption, misused of power and they are seeking his removal.

Sanoe further said that they are seeking a legitimate leadership since Kamara’s tenure has elapsed per their constitution.

According to him, they wrote Kamara letting him know about his alleged corrupt attitude and his misuse of power.

When the LSBA President Kamara reacted to the aggrieved group’s claims, he categorized them as “non-members” of the LSDA. According to him, they decided to break away to undermine the Liberianization Policy.

Mr. Kamara made this disclosure during an interview with our reporter at his New Georgia Junction offices.

The scrap dealers’ president further said that the accusations levied against him are “mere negative propagandas” intended to tarnish his hard-earned integrity. He promised not to take their accusations lightly.

According to Kamara, Sanoe and others’ accusation of being involved in alleged corruption and misuse of power, is tantamount to character assassination and witchcraft. He vowed to use means available to him through the courts to seek redress.

He challenged his accusers to show evidence that he did not win constitutionally as was also alleged by Sanoe. He vowed not to get distracted by his opponents but will remain firmed, focused and determined to move the LSDA forward for the benefit of all the members.

“For me, I will not give those people who called themselves LSBA credence, because they are not part of LSDA. They have their self-proclaimed president with their by-laws and constitution governing them as an independent body. So, if you have an independent structure, why will you question the leadership of a different institution?” LSDA president asked.

He urged the group to focus on managing their day-to-day affairs, running their organization and desist from blackmailing.

“The stakeholders and the leadership of the LSDA hold me in the highest esteem. The LSDA constitution says when the president violates the constitution, the executive committee will summon him to investigate and if found guilty he will be removed and the vice will take over. So, why listen to people with less or no knowledge about LSDA,” Kamara asserted.

Kamara brags that he is the only one to have formulated a well-structured office and has decentralized the LSDA official function across the country.

He concluded that among several other achievements, he lobbied for two vehicles and 10 motorcycles. “I am using one of the vehicles; one is used for the operations while one of the motorbikes was sent to Grand-Bassa County, another to Sinoe, one to Nimba, one to Grand Cape Mount, one to the Deputy Coordinator of LSDA, and the rest were given to the taskforce for official operation as he alarms.
