FeJAL set to Launch Media Monitoring Report on Women Representation and Portrayal in Media Coverage

IPNEWS: The Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) will on Friday, July 12, 2024, release findings from its Media Monitoring Exercise conducted between March 1 and May 31, 2024. The event which is scheduled to take place at iCampus on Carey Street beginning 10:00am will be held under the theme: “Inclusive Narratives, Diverse Perspectives: Promoting Gender Equity in Media Coverage.”

The Media Monitoring initiative is part of the Internews-USAID Media Activity implemented by FeJAL, with a specific focus on women’s representation and portrayal in the Liberian media. It aims to examine how media institutions track and analyze women’s issues across various platforms, including print and broadcast media.

Thematic areas being monitored under this program include Politics, Empowerment, Health, Security, Sports, Human Rights, Economy, Sexual Gender-Based Violence, Development, and Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence.

Madame Lisa Tenneh Diasay, President of FeJAL, emphasizes the importance of the Media Monitoring exercise, as it provides insights into how women are depicted and represented in the Liberian media. She indicated that the findings from this exercise will guide efforts towards more inclusive and diverse perspectives in news coverage.

FeJAL envisages a media landscape where women journalists and women in general, are afforded equal treatment and opportunities as their male counterparts. The organization aims to promote social justice, equal opportunities, and create a safe working environment for women by fostering collaborations with other organizations in safeguarding and promoting press freedom, free expression, and human rights.
