IPNEWS: President Joseph N. Boakai has vowed to provide Liberian farmers with the necessary resources, including farmlands, modern technologies, and improved seeds to enable them to go into โBig-time Farmingโ aimed at producing more food to feed Liberians.
The Liberian Leader added that he is exercising the mandate to preside over Liberiaโs destiny, as he maintains his stance on deploying the needed political will to motivate Liberians to embark on this โMake-or-break Agricultural Journeyโ.
Serving as Chief Launcher of the National Agriculture Development Plan (NADP) 2024-2030 on Wednesday July 10, 2024, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia, the Liberian leader assured the farmers that the Government of Liberia will also produce more cash crops for export to resuscitate the countryโs ailing economy.
โThis is a call to duty to all Liberians, especially key stakeholders in the agricultural sector – farmers, businesses, researchers, and policymakers,โ he said.
President Boakai stated that the participation of stakeholders in the agriculture sector is crucial.
He emphasized that the technological know-how, investment funds, as well as the wholesale commitment of the farmers are indispensable and critical for Liberians.
โWe have been wandering in our agricultural wilderness for far too long and now is the time to reach our promised land,โ he noted.
The Liberian leader rallied Liberians to the National Agriculture cause, citing, โTogether, Liberian can build a more resilient and self-reliant agricultural sector. When agriculture flourishes in Liberia, the entire Liberian nation flourishesโ
He indicated that with the implementation of the National agriculture project, no Liberian will go to bed on an empty stomach and that no child will go to school hungry.
He called on Liberians to embrace the National Agriculture Agenda of Liberia, citing, โLetโs celebrate the glittering joy and happiness in the bright shining Lone Star. Letโs all embrace the call to revolutionize our agriculture and live itโ.
โKnowing agriculture to be the backbone of our economy, we must take proactive steps to harness every potential in the sector, to bring progress and development to our peopleโ he said.
He emphasized that the NADP is a policy framework intended to harness Liberiaโs vast agricultural potential and shepherd Liberians from a world of want to a world of abundance to reduce the countryโs over-reliance on food importation
President Boakai emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency in food production.
“We want to inform all Liberians to grow what they eat in Liberia, ensuring that every Liberian leads a healthy daily life,” he noted.
The President also recalled that during his tenure as Minister of Agriculture, Liberia did not import chicken, stating, “We can achieve this again under my leadership as President of Liberia.”
As the nation embarks on this initiative, President Boakai highlighted the potential of building a robust agricultural sector. He also announced that the Yellow Machines initiative will support farmers by improving market roads, aligning with the ARREST Agenda.
Together, as a nation, Liberia can achieve self-sufficiency in food production with the Liberia Feed Ourselves Agenda.
