IPNEWS: The Minister of Labor, Cooper Kruah has extolled AFCONS, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal for depositing US$253 thousand into government’s revenue as fine levied against them for violation of Liberia Labor Law.

According to a release from the Ministry of Labor (MoL) dated June 30, 2024, Minister Kruah expressed his gratitude and explicit confidence in the management of AFCONS for fulfilling its obligation in ensuring the legal status of 310 Foreign Expatriates through the obtaining of Alien Work permits.

He lauded AFCONS Management for its full compliance with all standing regulations of the ministry, particularly relating to the obtainment or renewal of Alien Work Permits for foreign expatriates within Liberia’s Labor and investment sector.

He described AFCONS action as timely compliance management in obtaining and renewing Alien Work Permits for its expatriate workforce as the beginning of a new, genuine relationship between major investment conglomerates and the Liberian Government.

Minister Kruah emphasized that the relationship fosters mutual respect for labor-related regulations regarding job creation for Liberian citizens under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s agenda.

Meanwhile, the Liberia Labor Ministry is warning other investment companies with foreign expatriates in their employ to comply with the Ministry’s ongoing Inspection Enforcement Exercise, including ECOWAS citizens working in both formal and informal sectors as he cautioned the institutions to emulate the good example of AFCONS.
