Grand Bassa County to Benefit from US$ 10 Million Agape Youth Empowerment Center Project

—– As Sup. Set Stage to Depoliticizing Bassa University

IPNEWS: A wave of hope swept through the Nekreen Statutory District today as the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, introduced a transformative development project to the community.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence, described by many as a champion for education and economic empowerment, brought together the people of Nekreen and Mr. Dave Vincent Schwartz, President of the Agape Empowerment Center (USA) with the sole purpose of unveiling a very important partnership.

This partnership marks the beginning of a groundbreaking project which is the construction of a comprehensive education center, encompassing a high school and a technical and vocational skills training school.

The Agape Empowerment Center, inspired by Mr. Schwartz’s 2019 visit to Liberia, has been seeking a strategic location for their educational initiative. Recognizing the need for quality education in the region, Senator Karnga-Lawrence proposed Nekreen as the ideal site.

In appreciation to the very important project, the community, embraced the opportunity to be selected amongst many other communities in the County and reciprocated the kindness with a donation 10 acres of land for the project. The education center, estimated to cost between $10-$15 million USD, promises to be a beacon of opportunity for the youth of Grand Bassa County.

In a related development, June 11, 2024 (G-Bassa) –In addition to strengthening the Agriculture Department of the Grand Bassa University and prioritizing faculty-student exchange programs, the County Superintendent, Julia K. Bono has welcomed the vision of the University Interim President, Rev.  Dr. Samuel Benedict Reeves to show politics the exit gate of the Institution.

Their Monday, June 10 interaction at the Administrative Building Office of the Superintendent sets the stage for supervision of Hon. Bono over the University’s operations as the formulation of the Board of Trustees gets on the way.

Both Leaders shared the thought that depoliticizing the learning institution would attract educational and development partners, and create reliable academic atmosphere for students; underscoring the need to accelerate programs and activities that would get the institution on track with others.

As it stands, update from Dr. Reeves and his Administrative Team has signaled that sustainability of the Grand Bassa University is taking shape through Agricultural activities including planting of Rubber in District #2, Animals breeding (husbandry) and enhancement of the Agriculture College’ curriculum.

The County Administration mentioned in a Release that the specific update on the ongoing partnership with the African Development Bank, National Investment Commission and the University for the Procurement of Palm Milling (Processing) Machine and the practical enhancement of Agriculture students for guaranteed employability, is a laudable venture.

The Release stated, in the presence of her three Deputies and the Administrative staff of GBU, Superintendent Julia Bono committed her Administration’s vigor to support the Interim Team as she specifically appraised Dr. Reeves for his comprehensive decision for all staff to re-apply inline with Administrative scrutiny.
