CESS Launches Project to Raise Awareness Against Terrorism, Violent Extremism Today

IPNEWS: The Center for Economic Crimes and Security Studies (CESS) will this Wednesday, May 15, 2024, officially launch a project aimed at creating awareness against terrorism and violent extremism in the Mano River Union countries. The Mano River Union countries are Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast.

To be held at the University of Liberia’s Capitol Hill Campus in Monrovia, the launch is expected to bring together diplomatic missions in Liberia, government anti-graft institutions, civil society organizations and the student community, among others.

ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Josephine Nkrumah, will serve as the Chief Launcher of the project.

On 14th September 2019, the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at their extraordinary meeting held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, adopted a political declaration and a regional action plan against terrorism.

GIABA has provided support to two civil society groups to carry out sensitization and awareness on violent extremism and terrorism and on preventative measures in the Mano River Union and Northeastern Nigeria, with the Center for Economic Crimes and Security Studies (CESS) leading the process in the Mano River Union region in  partnership with COSs in Sierra Leone and Guinea.
