IPNEWS: Montserrado county Senator, Abraham Darus Dillon has termed as disastrous and completely messy the conduct of the inaugural ceremony of President Joseph Boakai and VP Jeremiah Koung, stressing that it was an embarrassment and shame that must not go under the caplet.
Addressing the third day sitting of the first session of the Liberian Senate Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Montserrado County Senator stressed that the planning of the event was out of order coupled with a messy protocol.
The Liberty Party strongman, who now chairs the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, blasted that inaugural program does not demonstrate that Liberia is more than 170 years old, referencing the lack of water and poor sound system during the event.
Senator Dillon further called on members of the Liberian Legislature to administer future protocol leading to such national function to avoid a repeat of the incident.
Meanwhile, President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has instructed the various Chairs on the Senate’s Committees on Executive, Rules, Order and Administration, Ways, Means, Finance and Budget and Foreign Affairs to work with the lower house for proper planning going forward.
It can be recalled that on Monday, January 22, 2024 during the inauguration of President Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung on the grounds of the Capitol Building, the Liberian leader suffered heat exhaustion, which led to the abrupt ending of his speech.
At the same time, the early concern raised by the Montserrado County lawmaker comes ahead of the President’s return to the 55th Legislature to deliver the State of the Nation Address on Monday, January 29, 2024.
