IPNEWS: With less than 24hrs following a warning by the National Campaign Chairperson of the Coalition for Democratic Change, Eugene Nagbe, that the CDC will not accept further provocation by folks of the Unity Party to inflect fear and murder on its partisans, the authoritative Independent Probe Newspaper has catalogue dreadful events of a bloody battle in the provisional town of Zuolay, Nimba COUNTY.
A team of IPNEWS reporters currently in Nimba County investigates what actually led to the bloody clash between partisans of the Unity Party and the ruling CDC.
Several eyewitnesses tell IPNEWS how the incident erupted on Friday November 10.
According to the report, the situation erupted when Nimba County Senators Prince Johnson and Jeremiah Koung accompanied by other members of its “rescue team” came under attack in the town of Zuolay, Nimba County, by men believed to be under the orders of Anthony Queewonkpa, son of the late General Thomas Qeenwonkpa.
Anthony Queenwonkpa has since denied attacking Senators Johnson and Koung-claiming that it was both Senators Johnson and Koung who tried to beat him on his way to his own Town.
Contrary to the claims by Anothny Qeenwonkpa, Sen. Johnson told newsmen that Anthony Queewonkpa sent him a text threatening him not to enter his town (Zuolay) with any campaign activity. He alleged that Queenwonka added that the failure of the rescue team to listen and adhere to the warning, they will meet resistance. The message Sen. Johnson did not take seriously but chose to enter Town. The town, he said was empty like a ghost town.
“While our people were trying to get to the town chief, they were attacked by Anthony Queewonkpa and his gang leaving four persons wounded. There was also a discharge of firearms, especially single-barrow guns and two were seized and turned over to the Liberia National Police.” Sen. Prince Jonson stated.
IPNEWS can confirmed at least six victims with several wounds undergoing treatment at the Ganta United Methodist Hospital contrary to earlier report that 12 partisans of the opposition Unity Party were being hospitalized.
A vehicle belonging to the ‘rescue team’ was seen damaged, even though no group has claimed responsibility. is responsible.
One of the victims, Nelsco Alco Wolo told IPNEWS that prior to the incident, Anthony Quinwonkpa the son of the late general Thomas Quinwonkpa sends a threatening text message to Senator Prince Johnson, with Senator Jeremiah Koung, Unity Party Vice Running Mate not to enter Zor Clean to run any campaign for the Unity Party.
Wolo explained that follow the text message from Anthony Quinwonkpa, they dawn Played it and move on toward Karnplay when they were attacked in Zor Zualay Town.
He accused Former Deputy Minister of state of using guns and other weapons to carry on the attacks against them.
The UP victim narrated that when they entered the Town, huge numbers of Young Men including district number 3 defeated representative candidate Anthony Quinwonkpa rush on them using short and long rank single barrel guns to attacks them.
He accused Former Deputy Minister of state Anthony Quinwonkpa for his fully involvement into their attacked after he openly engaged them and demanded them not to enter the Town including the Zor Clean to campaign for the opposition Unity Party.
” I send you guys’ text message and warned you all not to enter Zor Clean to run campaign but your force yourself to come; blood will waste here before you guys can leave from this Town.” A message allegedly from Anthony Quinwonkpa to both Senator Jeremiah Koung and Senate Prince Johnson read.
Initial names of the Friday’s violence include Arthur Yeanmie Junior 21-year-old, Marcus Nuah 18-year-old, Konah Nuah, Crystal Mehn 35-Year-old a daughter of Senator Prince Johnson and Bobby Biahn 38-year-old. Others with minor injuries included Festus Luogon 32-year-old, Deather Wesseh 21-year-old, Mohammed Kamara 30-year-old, Josephus K Cooper 32, Josephus Johnson 33 and Bill William 26 year.
At an early Sunday, November 12, press briefing, Eugene Nagbe alleged that the violence was masterminded by Senator Prince Y. Johnson and the Unity Party together with other accomplices.
Eugene Lenn Nagbe stated that the action by the Unity Party and Senator Johnson was a scare tactic to instill fear in the minds of the People of Nimba not to vote for a developmental candidate as President George Manneh Weah.
Nagbe said Senator Prince Johnson is insignificant to the development agenda of Liberia and nothing should stop the people of Nimba County from going in their numbers on November 14 2023 to vote for a candidate of their choosing.
” Let me tell Sen. Prince Johnson, and others that think violence is the way out. Don’t try it!”
“Do not take the government’s respect for the rule of law and civility as weakness! The people of Nimba County will come out to vote. Again, Sen. Johnson, do not test our resolve!” Hon. Eugene Nagbe warned.
The CDC Campaign Chair encouraged the former warlord turned self-styled evangelist to focus on helping to develop Nimba County and the younger generation of the county-stressing that the people of Nimba County are good.
He laughs at the divisive politicking by Sen. Johnson for a Nimba county Presidency, when he has refused to support Cllr. Gongloe, and others who participated in the recent Election hailing from the very county he pretends to solely love.
“This issue of Prince Johnson is not about Nimba but it about himself, He wants people to think he has controlled the people of Nimba County. Nimbians are very good people, and they will Vote for President Weah come Tuesday”.
“We condemn all voidance, all the nonsense they are on is that we didn’t drag them well during the first round.”
“We are here today that a few days from now the Liberian people will be re-electing President Weah, the plan from the Unity Party is to undermine the peace since the start of this campaign Three of our supporters were killed by the opposition.”
“We have had serval meetings with our partners, one blood of an individual is important to this process. Nimba, Lofa, and Montserrado counties incidents; this government is not weak as it had been carried out by this opposition Unity Party, This Party-CDC had always been a party of law but did not push us. ” Eugene L. Nagbe intone.
