– Request US$ 4 billion for gov’t to achieve it national plan in the Next 6 Years
IPNEWS: Deputy Finance Minister, Samora P.Z. Wolokolie had described the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) as overly ambitious, requesting US $ 4 billion to achieve it goals and objectives for the next six years.
According to Wolokolie, in other for government of Liberia to realized and achieved all of its target within the documents it will need over four billion United States dollars.
Speaking in a radio appearance, November 8, 2023 on State Radio, ELBC, on the topic ” why President George M. Weah should be re-elected and analysis of the government PAPD framework” he disclosed that the government remains focused on providing jobs opportunity and better livelihood for its citizens as captured in the PAPD.
He added that the numbers of people who supposed to be lifted out of poverty as proposed by the PAPD are expanded with inferior and not six years as critic has misinterpreted.
” We have a manifesto or a development plan for a country, strategies development plan that runs in excess of six years. That program has a cost the PAPD is costed around US$4 billion dollars. The manifesto of the CDC 2017 PAPD it’s ambitious. I mean it’s very ambitious. To be able to achieve everything in the manifesto it means you must be able to mobilized the resource to Carter to the manifesto” Mr. Wolokolie stated.
According to him, their manifesto therefore didn’t told Liberian that it will raise one million people out of poverty in one year or six years.
” We are projecting in the PAPD to raise one million people out of poverty within a protracted period. The period expands beyond two terms, for clarity, it’s beyond 2029. So, the manifesto had been misinterpreted. I’m making a honest clarification, So, know it today that the one million people to be lifted out of poverty is not one year or six years thing but extend beyond” Mr. Wolokolie noted.
However, he assured that his government remains committed to good governance, transparency, jobs and infrastructure development as promised in the PAPD.
” We will talk about transparency, accountability and the creation of the difference structure. The integrity institutions, that they recruit and ensure that the GAC, IAA and the LACC there are set requirements under the Act who to occupy those positions. We are looking at that. In the past government for example at the IAA those who head the institution were not professional accountants” he noted. By Taisiah K. Merfee
