-As Spoon TV’s Talkshow Panelists Following the Feed Mock Him for “Telling Lies”, “Nonsense” to General Assembly
President George Weah’s address to the United Nations General Assembly’s 78th gathering was ruined by “technical glitches,” on Wednesday, September 20.
The President’s speech was being relayed via the Executive Mansion’s official Facebook and it was being followed by hundreds of Liberians back home and abroad, including the Spoon TV’s late evening Spoon Talk panelists, all of whom are outside Liberia at the moment.
The Spoon Talk panelists, who are on many occasions very critical of the Liberian leader’s leadership ability, were also relaying the President’s address from the Executive Mansion’s Facebook feed when the “technical glitches” suddenly appeared while the President was just few seconds in his speech.
When the President was cut-off from that particular section that his Executive Mansion Media Team was feeding from, his Deputy Press Secretary, Mr. Smith Toby can be heard saying: “It’s like we are having technical glitches coming from inside of the UN General Assembly. Few minutes ago, one of the speakers…; we are looking to the technical arm of all those who are involved…” As Smith tried to provide explanation to his audience, the Spoon Talk panelists’ voices, including that of Mr. Stanton Witherspoon, can be heard drowning Smith’s own. Smith’s voice was noticeably recognized by Mr. Eugene Fahngon, who once served as one of the deputies at the Ministry of Information. While he served at the Ministry, Fahngon was an ardent and faithful ‘worshipper’ of the President until he was fired by the very man he had once adored.
“The people say George Weah saying non sense so they cut him off,” Witherspoon said among other things. His disrespectful remark was greeted by laughter from another of his fellow panelists, Mr. Gibson Jerue, who was joined by Fahngon agreeing with Witherspoon: “Yes, he was lying…” It was all mockery for the President at that moment. Another of the panelists, Mr. Prince Maxwell, a former employee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, too, added: “God seh (self) know the man lying…”
Not long after Smith had to end his live broadcast of the President’s address. It is not yet clear whether some of the President’s inner circles were monitoring Spoon and might have tipped Smith off that the President is being mocked because of the “technical glitches” that he Smith was announcing had happened. However, before he went off air, he was also heard saying that the texts of the President speech would be uploading for readers to see.
Sometime later, the Executive Mansion Facebook page was updated with a good, quality video that was culled from the UN. The President’s speech was also uploaded to the page, too. But the original “technical glitch” video that Smith was broadcasting had been swiftly removed.
There were six panelists on the live show at the time Smith’s reported “technical glitches” happened. The other two were Dr. Francien Chenoweth Richardson and Mr. Dualu, who, too, picked bones with the President’s address and some of the things he had said to the delegates at that world assembly.
