Justice Minister Dean Begs for Mercy before High Court

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Minister of Justice Cllr. Frank Musa Dean on Tuesday 20, 23, appeared before the Supreme Court  and  begged for mercy and apologized for his recent statement against the judiciary that led to his Contempt charge along with the Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie.

He said it was not their intent to bring the court and the judiciary branch to public ridicule.

During the contempt hearing Justice Minister Dean did not deny of writing the statement but begged for Court mercy.

The appearance of Justice Minister were based on ground of both Ministers Cllr. Dean and Rennie were held in contempt of court and they were expected to appear before the full bench of the Supreme Court to show cause why they should not be held in contempt after bringing the Judiciary to public disrepute following the acquittal of the defendants in the US$100 million cocaine case.

Justice Minister Dean said that his statement was only pointing out to the verdict of the jurors in the US$100m case. He said based on the verdict of the jurors in his statement he started that the Legislature should pass law calling for reform in the jury system or the judiciary should continue with the HO jury system.

On June 6, 2023, the High Court fined Minister of Justice Dean of the Information Minister Ledgerhood J. Rennie and the Solicitor General designate Nyanti Tuan US$500 each for failure to appear before them after they were held in contempt..

The two Ministers held in contempt through the Solicitor General designate Nyanti Tuan informed members of the Supreme Court Bench that the two Ministers held in contempt travel out of Liberia today June 6, 2023 for an official duties when they expected to be in court without any written excuse.
