President Weah Calls on Liberians to be Patient, Register to Vote

–As Liberian Leader Registers at Kendeja School on RIA Highway

IPNEWS-Monrovia: President George Weah has called on Liberians to be patient with the biometric registration process as it is a new system being carried out in the country by the National Elections Commission (NEC).

President Weah participated in the biometric voter registration process on Friday March 31 and obtained his card at the Kendeja Elementary School on the RIA highway.

President Weah who went through the same normal process of registering, told Journalists that the process is not slow as speculated in some quarters.

He stressed the need for citizens to be law abiding and obey the rules from the NEC officials.

Speaking to journalists after his registration process alongside his wife, First Lady Clar M. Weah, he called on citizens to maintain the peace to have a smooth process.

President Weah said citizens should make sure to obtain their Biometric Voter Registration Cards to enable them choose their Government. “To enable you choose your government, am asking all citizens of voting age to peacefully abide by NEC procedures and obtain their card”.

It can be recalled several Liberians have voiced out their displeasure over what they called ‘slowness’ of the BVR process, expressing fear if the system is not improved, the NEC might not be able to register all eligible voters.

The NEC did acknowledge some earlier glitches when the process started but says things have improved and the process is now going on smoothly. NEC has also said it will not extend the first phase of the BVR in those counties where it started on March 20 and is expected to end on April 9, 2023.

At the same time, NEC stated that logistical arrangements are being concluded in their other counties of Liberia for the second phase of the BVR process.
