SEN. PYJ’S VOA INTERVIEW SHOULD WORRY THE RULING COALITION

NIMBA COUNTY SENATOR Prince Y. Johnson has opened another Pandora’s Box. His recent interview with the Voice of America VOA on his appraisal of President George Weah and his government and his announcement that he will not support the soccer icon for a second term of office, have sparked debates everywhere.

THE EX-WARLORD, NOW a politician, did not mince his words. He said the President’s incompetence and failure to attract investors to the country since he became President has brought untold suffering to the citizenry.

RECALLING WHY HE gave his unflinching support to the CDC political leader in 2017, Johnson, considered the political Godfather of vote-rich Nimba County, told the VOA that he had thought George Weah being a former World’s Best Footballer, would have attracted investors to create job opportunities for the citizens, but has proven otherwise.

THE NIMBA SENATOR also told the VOA a CDC or Government delegation, including Party Chairman Mulbah Morlu, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, Labor Minister Charles Gibson, Professor Wilson Tarpeh of the Environmental Protection Agency and others recently paid him a courtesy visit only to beg him to rescind his decision not to support the President’s second term.

IN THE WAKE of his latest interview, the Nimba Senator has got many people talking about and interpreting his interview depending on where one sits and with whom they sit.

HOWBEIT, DOES SENATOR Johnson have a point? Some say he has and others think he doesn’t.

FOR THOSE WHO think he has a point, many Liberians overwhelmingly voted for Mr. Weah because they thought with his celebrity status and popularity around the World, he would have attracted more international support through investment opportunities.

THEY ALSO THOUGHT that with a president that won the title of World’s best footballer, Liberia would have become a Country to reckon with in World football, but it has also turned the opposite.

FOR THOSE WHO say Senator Johnson doesn’t have a point, they think he is unpredictable and so cannot be trusted, while others also think his latest outburst ahead of the October 2023 elections is an attempt to blackmail the Government, particularly President Weah, to make some financial gains.

AS THE DEBATE continues, it is not us to say who is right and who is wrong, but what is obvious is, Senator Johnson, the-warlord turned politician, is unarguably a very influential person in his home County, Nimba, the second vote-rich County in Liberia.

WE THINK HIS declared withdrawal of support from President George Weah and his CDC ahead of this year’s crucial elections that the President needs to secure a second term of office, should be something worrisome to the ruling Coalition.
