UL to Introduce Studies of Fisheries and Aquaculture Science

University of Liberia on Thursday January 19, 2023 announced that it is expected hold graduation commencement ceremony for over one thousand students in various academic disciplines and the subsequent enrollment of students who sat the two entrance examination administered by the Testing and Evaluation in last year.

Making the disclosure at the University of Liberia conference room, University of Liberia Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Moses Monroe Zinnah said that they are expected to put out over one thousand plus graduates in April.

“We are pleased to announce that those who have worked so hard and have completed their work will graduate in April. The activities will begin from April 17-29, 2023. Our next academic year, we hope to start May 1, 2023. Currently, we have one thousand students who have completed their process and awaiting graduation. And so, before the second semester ends, others will join them and the number is expected to increase,” Dr. Zinnah explained.

The Liberian agriculture and rural development expert stated that the second semester is currently on course and moving well since their resumption January 4, 2023 for the Christmas and New Year festival celebration, adding that they will announce the second entrance result in two weeks.

He noted that new academic school year May 1, 2023, they will officially introduce the studies of Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (DoFAS). He explained that the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Science will be launched Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 1:00PM on the Capitol Hill campus.

“The program will be launched by the Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor while Deputy House speaker Fonati Kofa will deliver the keynote address. The program is a four-year degree granting studies. This program intends to open and create more jobs for Liberians and for Liberians to also be jobs creator. This is a study that will help our fisheries and marine sector,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections, the University of Liberia, in collaboration with the two diplomatic missions accredited to Liberia is expected to kick off a One-Day Dialogue for the Consolidation of Peace, Security and Development in Liberia.

The dialogue which is expected to take place at the University of Liberia Capitol Hill auditorium will bring together several diplomats and top government officials including the German Amb. Dr. Jakob Haselhuber and France Amb. Michael Roux.

However, during the dialogue, Liberia will be thought lessons from the French and German reconciliatory experience after years of historical tension.

Addressing a major Press conference Thursday January 19, 2023 at the University of Liberia conference room, Cllr. Norris Tweah, Vice President, University of Liberia Relations disclosed that they will host the dialogue Monday January 23, 2023 on the Capitol Hill Campus.

“We will be hosting the Dialogue for the Consolidation of Peace, Security and Development in Liberia. The program is organized by the Embassies of France and Germany. The Dialogue will take place in the Capitol Hill, auditorium on Monday January 23, 2023 at 11:00am,” he explained.

Mr. Tweah added that the occasion is used to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Elysee Treaty between France and Germany which was signed between President Charles de Gaulle and Chancellor Konrad Adnauer January 22, 1963.

In another development, Mr. Tweah mourned and expressed condolence to the Abdullai family over the passing of former Dean of the College of Education Prof. Euphemia K. Abdullai.

“We are saddened by this sad incident. We hope and pray that God Almighty guard and protect a character that was very destine. We see this as a blow. Meanwhile, we like to announce that our president and delegate are currently in Sierra Leone for the convocation of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology. He will return again with lots of good partnership for students and the university” he concluded.
