IPNEWS-Monrovia: Vice President, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, at a recent visit to the 6th National Annual Youth Peace Camp of Messengers of Peace-Liberia (MOP-Liberia), admonished hundreds of young Liberians attending the event, to remain focus on peace and development.
Addressing scores of young Liberians drawn from the 15 sub political divisions of the country, Vice President Howard-Taylor urged the young people to spend their time wisely and begin to prepare themselves for leadership roles and responsibilities as the future of Liberia remains in their hands.
The former two-term Senator of Bong County further cautioned all young campers to put God first in everything they do, as they go through their lives’ journey.
Last year’s 6th National Youth Peace Summer Camp, which was held in Gbarnga, Bong County, focused on: “Youth Security Sector Reform and Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights.” The summer peace camp was geared towards giving young people an enabling environment to boost their growth in peace and development activities.
The 6th annual youth regular youth event hosted by Messenger of Peace-Liberia, would not have been possible without the support from ActionAid-Liberia, St. Paul College Seminary, The Catholic Diocese of Gbarnga, and Friends of Messengers of Peace-Liberia (MOP).
The organizers of the event also paid special thanks to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their unwavering support towards the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda in Liberia.
The Executive Director of Messenger of Peace-Liberia, Miss. Gwendolyn Myers, noted that her organization remained grateful and inspired to work at ensuring that the youthful population of Liberia are focused on peace and developmental initiatives.
She continued: “As the camp folds up, it is our hope and expectation that every young person attending this year’s event is equipped with information about peace and should be penning down their peace plans and expectations for 2023!”
“Congratulations to our 100 participants from the fifteen counties of Liberia for Cohort-6 of the National Annual Youth Peace Summer Camp in Liberia which was in partnership with Action Aid-Liberia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” she emphasized.
At the close of the camp, some of the participants, took to the official Facebook page of Messenger of Peace-Liberia expressing: “The peace message is resounding and alive.” It was a thrilling experience to have been a part of a group of over hundred genuine change makers. Thank you Ms. Gwendolyn Myers-the peace messenger. Thank you to all of the camp managers.” Albert Gabriel Varney II wrote.
Also speaking, Paul Menkoah, another youth camper noted: “Many thanks to the MOP family for such great initiative. We had a memorable time together. Despite the different ethnic and political backgrounds or the multiplicity of young people, the messages that consistently resonated was about peace and how to strengthen our spiritual lives. There was so much unity at the camp. This is an experience that I remain forever grateful for. Many thanks to Miss. Myers for her excellent mentorship!”
Reacting also, Catrina Dumba said: “Wow, I am so excited to be part of the sixth annual youth peace summer camp 2022, many thanks to my down-to-earth ED, Miss. Myers for the privilege, it was a lifetime experience.”
