Small Swen Gbuken Community Residents in Grand Kru Vow to Boycott 2023 Elections – Cite Lack of Infrastructural Development

IPNEWS-Grand Kru: Residents of Small Swen Gbuken community situated in Grand Kru County have concluded to stay away from the pending 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections due to low infrastructural development something they described as  “neglecting and undermining of  their right to receive positive transformation from their elected officials in the county and country”.

A very big community in Grand Kru County, the home County of Senate Pro Tempore Albert Chie, Deputy Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, and President George Weah have expressed disappointment over lack of recognition from its sons and daughters after being elected to speak for them and developmentally transform their living conditions.

Speaking to IPNEWS reporter in the County on December 27, 2022, the people of Small Swen in anger narrated that boycotting the Legislative and Presidential Elections in 2023 is their best option for now, on grounds that they have over the past years and up to now been neglected by Grand Kru Legislative Caucus and Local County authorities.

In their position statement, the People of Small Swen Gbuken stated that, the Gbuken Public School volunteering teachers were left out during the sharing of Five Thousand United States Dollars donated by the County Legislative Caucus to buttress volunteering teachers’ efforts in sustaining their homes.

They wrote in the position statement that none of Gbuken men or women have also benefited from the Help-The-Poor program recently conducted and from which other nearby communities dwellers in the County have continued to receive cash.

The “Neglected Community” as quoted from the position statement and recording in our IPNEWS possession voiced out that since 1959, school going children in the community have been sitting under an old Mud-house to seek better Education something they described as “serious embarrassment and disregard to them and their community.”

Raymond Joeploh who read the position statement while concluding revealed that if their concerns and the community are not given attention, they will not waste their time to take part in the 2023 Elections to elect anybody to represent Grand Kru County in the House of Representative or the Senate, as well as vote any candidate for the presidency.

Also various groups in the community have voiced out their concerns as well as regarding the current situation,  including the Town Chief, Women Representative and the young people of Gbuken Community have joined in their quest to support the cause of Small Swen Gbuken community residents and decided not to vote any candidate in the ensuring 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
