–As 100 Emerging Heath Professionals Bag Certificates in Scientific Research

IPNEWS: The president of the Liberia Medicine Students Association (LMSA) Patricia Gray has proposed to the government of Liberia and International partners for the establishment of Liberia Research Institute on the campus of the A.M Dogliotti College of medicine.

According to Ms. Gray, the establishment of the Liberia Research Institute on the campus will enable the country to have accurate date and information about Liberia health and medicine sector.

Delivering the keynote address at the graduation and certification of the Liberia Heath Education and Research Conference (LHERCH) over the weekend at the A. M Dogliotti College of medicine, she said that over the past time they are facing challenges when it comes to have accurate date about research conducted in

Liberia.

The Liberia Heath Education and Research Conference (LHERCH) is four-day scientific research conference that brings together one hundred emerging health professionals across Liberia health sector.

The conference which is proudly sponsored by the USAID-Funded BRIDGE-U:

Applying Research for Healthy Liberia project focused on the significance of research and interpersonal approach in advancing the health sector of Liberia. “During the training, and studies, we have encounter numerous challenges that have to do with research. Because to find a data on a research conducted in Liberia is difficult. Meanwhile, because of that, we are always referee to another country of studies conducted in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria.”

“I think that it’s important that we as young people take on the method of having research. It’s from that backdrop, which we are hoping to extend beyond. If you get to other countries, they have research institute and most time they say Dogliotti College is free that is why it’s like this. However, if we have research institute and write a good paper at the end of the day the school can have a grant to take care of other student needs” she explained.

The medical students president recommends that if the government of Liberia and partners can find reason to an establish the Liberia Research Institute, it will be important for data and research purpose and the institute will also be run on grant.

The Liberia Medical Students Association (LMSA), with support from the USAID Funded BRIDGE-U: Applying Research for Healthy Liberia project over the weekend graduated one hundred emerging health professionals in scientific research skills development.

The training was a four-day conference which began Wednesday, December 7, 2022 and ended Saturday December 10, 2022 at the Liberia medical school campus in Congo Town.

The conference is in continuation of the maiden edition of the Liberia Health Education and Research Conference (LHERC) which is organized by the Liberia Medical Students Association.

However, motivating the emerging health professionals and graduates, LMSA president urged the graduates to make use of the knowledge and skills that they have acquired, appealing that they should not sit on the knowledge.

“I want to thank our partners ever so much for the support and provision of lecturers. They have done and continue to do well. Lastly, I am urging you graduates please you should not leave the knowledge just in this room neither your homes. It should go beyond where we can have a Research Institute in Liberia” she concluded.

On their part, the participants expressed happiness and excitement to the Liberia Medical Students Association and its partners for the conference and knowledge shared.

“We are grateful to you and your partners for the knowledge shared and opportunity given us to expand our skill development. We will not disappoint because we will make sure that this awareness about research that we have been acquired here today will be implemented.”

Meanwhile, “we ask for more of these opportunities but on a very larger and wilder rage because that is what our country needs” she concluded. “We are the face now. However, we hope that every leadership that will come will follow.”

She said that they have decided to take medicine beyond medication, meaning instead of always focusing on the bedside and how to treat patients, the public health people are carrying on awareness but the patients need to know what is happening and how well it is going to impact them.

She noted that they are there to governor all medical students. “Over time, we took it as an inter-professional space, the arm to practice medicine, I have to get everything on board. Everyone important in the medical field.”

“If I need this to be done as a medical doctor, I cannot do it alone because cooperation matter. We want to appreciate our sponsor, the Bridge-UL family, they are the main sponsor that have taken us through this.

They are into Center Teaching and Innovation. We want this work to go beyond. Over time, we have a review of our entire action plan. I want us to be very encouraged because the beginning of everything is hard.”
