EPS AGENTS’ ‘ESCAPE’ ABROAD; TRUE OR FALSE?

The news is spreading with a 4G speed across the capital, Monrovia. Perhaps, across the entire country, that some agents of the Executive Protective Security Service (EPS) travelling with President George Weah, have absconded or have abandoned him.

One local daily, FrontPage Africa, reported it this way: Nine EPS AGENTS WHEREABOUTS UNKNOWN-PRESIDENT WEAH’S EXECUTIVE SERVICE MUTE OVER AGENTS ‘ESCAPE’.

According to the newspaper, there are insinuations that the EPS agents allegedly stole the President’s money and have likely fled to Europe in search of greener pastures.

Are these reports or insinuations true or they are just mere propaganda?

Social media users are also running with the news their own way and do not care about the negative implications if the reports turned out to be untrue.

Quite disappointingly, there hasn’t so far been any official statement or reaction from the Government or authorities of the elite security force, leaving the public in doubt over the authenticity of the reports.

It is often said that “silence means consent”, but is it always the case? Could it be that the government or authorities of the EPS decided to let the sleeping dog to lie because they think the reports are just mere propaganda and do not merit their response or reaction?

To put it the other way around, is the government dumbfounded and finding what it thinks is an appropriate way to deal with the damaging reports?

Whatever the circumstances may be, let not the government and authorities of the EPS forget that Liberia is a gullible society where people just believe whatever they hear without having a second thought.

Howbeit, it still remains unclear as to how many bodyguards or EPS agents President Weah carried with him. If nine EPS agents have abandoned him in Qatar or Europe and fled to unknown destinations as contained in the reports, how many of them were on the trip with him and how many of them are stay with him?

What are the identities and individual badge numbers of the agents, who allegedly fled and those still remaining with the President?

These are questions we want the source or sources of the information to provide answers to. Until these questions are answered, there are still doubts in the public over whether the reports are true or just mere propaganda.

The government and authorities of the EPS are also obliged to say something about this development without any further delay because of its negative implications and the embarrassment it may have caused the President if the reports of his own bodyguards fleeing from him are true. Besides, whether true or not, the damage has already been done first to the presidency and second, the Republic of Liberia.
