IPNEWS: On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the Liberia Chess Federation continued its annual chess festival with the National Rapid Championship.
This event was played at the Office of the Liberia Chess Federation on Cheeseman Avenue, 9th Street, Sinkor. Like almost every other event, this was played in two sections: Open and Female, at a time control of 20+5. The event had a total of 60 combined participants.
Candidate Master Anthony Waylea and Abigail Karyah won both Open and Female sections respectively.
The festival continued on Sunday with the Blitz Championship on Sunday December 3. The Blitz Event was played at a time control of 3+2 and there was no result as of press time. The winners (Open and Female) will be crowned champions of Liberia for Blitz.
The main event is scheduled to run from December 10 – 18, 2022, at the Auditorium of the University of Liberia on Capitol Hill. This event determines the real Champion of Chess in Liberia for the next calendar year.
