USAID Delegation from New York Assesses Covid_19 Vaccination Campaign in Liberia

IPNEWS – KAKATA – As part of effort in making sure that COVID_19 vaccine is administered to every citizen of Liberia, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its project implementing partner UNICEF, last Wednesday, November 9,  made an assessment tour in Margibi County.

The tour participants include USAID Head of Delegation from New York, Madam Beth Tritter, and the USAID Liberia Mission Director Jim Wright and the County Health Officer of Margibi County, Dr. Augustine Farnieh.

The event highlights the U.S Government COVID-19 assistance to Liberia and the importance of vaccinating more students against COVID-19.

The delegation, led by Beth Tritter, Executive Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) COVID-19 Response Team and USAID/Liberia Mission Director Jim Wright toured the two vaccination booths at the school campus where students and teachers were being vaccinated with their COVID_19.

Liberia was amongst several countries in the world that experienced the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic and has fought to gain control over the spread of the virus.

The trip was intended to allow the visiting delegation have a one-on-one conversation with residents and students of Margibi County, and to find ways on the effective administration of the vaccine to all citizens of Liberia.

The team made stopped at the Lango Lippaye High School, where good number of students and teachers was vaccinated as part of the process.

Madam Tritter praised the Government of Liberia for achieving high in the vaccine exercise against many countries in world.

“Liberia has made some significant effect by reaching 70 percent bench mark set up for the vaccination process in the world. I’m happy for this country,” Madam Tritter stated.

Ms. Tritter congratulated Liberia for the accomplishment of getting 70 percent of the total population vaccinated and emphasized that school-based vaccination programs are needed to increase vaccination uptake among children.

They also toured the two vaccination points/booths where they spoke with health workers and saw students getting vaccinated. Beth Tritter, Executive Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) COVID-19 Response Team, congratulated the Margibi country health team for their work in promoting and providing school base vaccination and encouraging more students to take the COVID-19 Vaccine.

Student Edith B. Diah, who was among many of her colleagues vaccinated, appreciated USAID and UNICEF for selecting her institution, Lango Lippaye High School, in ensuring that they are vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Principal in remarks said his administration is grateful to host the vaccinating team over the next few days.

Principal Morris B. Farweneh also reaffirmed his institution’s support to the Government of Liberia in the campaign and the administration of vaccine to all citizens in the county.

However, Mr. D. Habakkuk Kollie, the County Child Survival Focus Person said, the County Health Team has targeted 122,000 persons to be vaccinated by the end of December, this year.

As the head of the vaccinating team in the county, Mr. Kollie disclosed that his team will work harder with residents and students in Margibi to achieve the targeted number.
