Local Voices Liberia Holds Panel Discussion with PQSJ Students on Misinformation & Hate Speech….

IPNEWS-Monrovia: About 40 selected products of the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ are expected to participate in a panel discussion to stop the spread of misinformation and hate speech tomorrow, Friday, 16 September 2022.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, September 15, 2022 in Monrovia by MediaAid Foundation (Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ), the event takes place at 10am at the A.M. Kyne Collegiate Resource Center within the William V.S. Tubman High School campus on 12th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia.

It is implemented by Internews and Local Voices Liberia, a fact checking media network under the Liberia Media Initiative co-financed by the European Union.

Three panelists: Dr. IB Nyei, a Researcher of the Center for Democracy and Development, Atty. Al-varney Rogers of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and Ruth Gbatoe of the Center for Media Studies and Peace Building-CEMESP will provide expert opinions on how the media can stop the spread of misinformation and hate speech in society.

Misinformation is generally considered as “false information deliberately intended to deceive the audience, while hate speech is a form of attack against a particular group of people, especially on the basis of race, religion or sexual orientation”.

At Friday’s panel discussion, participants from the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ will interact with the panelists by sharing experience and posing questions on the issue of misinformation and hate speech, among others.

The discourse is one of several events staged by Local Voices Liberia to provide awareness against misinformation and hate speech involving learning and media institutions across Monrovia.
