US$20 Million Lawsuit Hangs Over Senate’s Secretary Nanborlor Singbeh

IPNEWS: Mr. J. Nanborlor F. Singbeh Sr., Secretary of the Liberian Senate, has been dragged to the Civil Law Court “B” at the Temple of Justice in a US$20 million lawsuit. It arises from a case that involves Singbeh and one Hans Armstrong.

Plaintiff Armstrong through his lawyers prayed the court and Judge Nancy Sammy, to adjudge Defendant Singbeh liable for the amount not less than US$20 million as general damages for the emotional trauma that he allegedly caused him (Armstrong).

The plaintiff’s lawyers indicated that Singbeh’s action allegedly caused their client public humiliation, seclusion and denial, shame, and loss of business reputation among others that he (Hans Armstrong) had built for over three decades.

Armstrong’s lawyers also asked Judge Sammy to grant unto their client “any other relief that the court may deem just legal and equitable in the premises.”

Even though in Section 2.11 (4) of the Civil Procedure Law, tit 1 provides that an action for injuries to the reputation shall be commenced within one year of the time the right relief accrued, Armstrong’s lawyer, Amara M. Sheriff, said plaintiff said that at the time Defendant Singbeh sent the letter to the Chief Justice and its subsequent publication in Heritage newspaper on November 24, 2020, plaintiff did not know, could not have known and did not have reasons to know or did not have had reasons to have known until one of his friends who was reviewing most local dailies online and came across the September 24, 2020 edition of Heritage newspaper and immediately informed him.

Plaintiff lawyers pointed out that he has resolved to adopt a child whom he has continued to provide maintenance and support and other necessities of life to him, but due to the defaming publication to the injury and detriment of his reputation, he cannot proceed with the adoption exercise. “Plaintiff gives notice that he will prove all off these assertions during trial of the case,” Armstrong’s legal team said Armstrong’s complaint.
