‘Arrest Order for Police Inspector General’

IPNEWS: The Judge of the 6th Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court, Nancy Sammy has ordered the arrest of Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue for Contempt of Court.

The writ from the Civil Law Court in Monrovia Thursday, August 18, is predicated upon what the court termed as the refusal of Police IG Sudue to appear before the Independent National Commission on Human Rights to prove accountability of the July 26, Protest in front of the U S Embassy in Monrovia.

The INCHR is charged with the statutory mandate to protect and promote human rights in Liberia.

The violent July 26 protest witnessed the alleged brutality and torture of one member of the Students Unification Party of the University of Liberia Christopher Sivili.

The SUP member, according to reports sustained injuries and has been in critical condition since the incident.

The INCHR in its initial condemnation report, called for the public to assist in gathering information regarding the incident.

It can be recollected that on July 26, 2022, the day Liberia celebrated 175 years of Independence, members of the Students Unification Party had gone to stage a protest dubbed FIX THE COUNTRY in front of the United States Embassy when they were countered allegedly by people calling themselves CDC-Council of Patriots throwing stones at the protesting students.

The incident went viral on social media and was prompted by several condemnations from civil society actors, prominent citizens, leaders of political parties, and the diplomatic missions near the capital.

Six days following the incident, President Weah condemned the act, denounced the self-styled CDC-CoP, and mandated the police to arrest the perpetrators of the July 26 violence and conduct an immediate investigation.

In adherence to the President’s directive, seven persons of the CDC-CoP were arrested, charged, and sent to court for prosecution. Those arrested include, Ben Believe Tokpah, Porkah Roberts, among others. By Seykajipo Amegashie writes 0777594750/0880554136 amegashie2022@gmail.com
