Over Pres. Weah’s Home Looting Investigation: EPS Boss Takes Responsibility

IPNEWS: Amidst ongoing investigation by the National Security Council over the recent alleged breaking-in at the 9th Street residence of President George Manneh Weah, the head of the presidential elite Unit, Executive Protection Service, Trokon Roberts, has admitted security lapses and has taken full responsibility for the incident.

Sources hinted IPNEWS late Thursday, August 11, that furious national security advisor, former Sinoe County Representative, Jefferson Kamoh, demanded a tougher investigation into the incident owing to conflicting accounts surrounding occurrences that led to the vandalization of the President’s home.

National Security Advisor, Kamoh, according to sources previously insisted on the suspension of the Director of the Executive Protection Service, Trokon Roberts for a balance investigation but was later quashed by other members of the national security council of Liberia.

The apparent admittance by Director Roberts comes days following reports by sources that contrary to earlier reports of a criminal break-in on the premises of President George Weah’s 9th Street residence, the incident was actually a failed mutiny by some disgruntled militias of the VIP Security Unit under the command of Presidential Aid, Abraham Kromah, alias King Buju Banton, that were infused into the EPS.

According to impeachable sources within the corridors of the ruling government hinted IPNEWS that members of the VIP Security Unit, now another elite militia group had been demanding an increment of their salaries from US$106 to US$200 monthly and inclusion on the government payroll in the wake of a series of failed promises to them for inclusion into the national fiscal Budget for over the last six months.

The VIP Security Unit according to close associates was founded following an incident of a mad man allegedly entering the premises of President George Weah’s rehab residence in 2019 without security notice.

Since then, sources tell IPNEWS the VIP Security Unit was founded under the direction of Presidential Aid Abraham Kromah, alias King Buju Banton, and has been safeguarding the premises of the president including his Home on 9th Street, Payne Avenue, and famous Jamaica resort along the Roberts International Airport Highway.

The Executive Law of Liberia, established in 1958, the Special Security Service (SSS), later renamed during the security sector reform under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as the Executive Protection Service (EPS), to provide security protection for the presidency and immediate families as well as other top VIPs.

The information available to IPNEWS says the total men of the VIP Security Unit is believed to be about 200 men, reportedly trained by former rebel fighters of the Liberia United for Reconstruction and Development (LURD), Ofori Diah. IPNEWS understands that Ofori Diah recently sought medical attention at a private Hospital in the Ghanaian Capital Accra.

The report further says the failed mutiny and subsequent looting occurred following an outburst by some members of the VIP Security Unit, (meanly those included in the Executive Protection Unit) of lack of guarantee for inclusion into the national budget payroll, while their other colleagues were now comfortably seated into other security apparatus.

Security Experts tell the authoritative Independent Probe that at least sixty men of the VIP Security Unit were infused in the Liberia National Police and the Liberia Immigration Service.

Insider sources informed IPNEWS that at least four smart televisions, Chandeliers, split units, carpets, including other valuables.

In December 2020, Presidential Aid and Liberia’s Rastafarian Ambassador to Jamaica, Abraham Kromah, alias King Buju Banton, was seen performing alongside President Weah in the famous reggae song ‘Mr. Liar Man’ song. The Liberian leader hit the music scene with another jam after his previous tune dubbed Miss Earth Liberia (Da who will win).

It is unknown whether the Liberia National Police has made any arrests after the theft at President Weah’s 9th Street home. It was reported when President Weah visited his home after the theft incident last Friday, he was seen in an angry mood and reportedly ordered the National Security Agency (NSA) to conduct a probe into the incident.

Up to press time, IPNEWS could not verify whether the NSA has made any arrests or started an investigation into the theft incident.
