Grassroots Football Gears Up In Bassa, As Six Teams Battle for Supremacy

IPNEWS-Grand Bassa: What appears to be a good start in the development and promotion of football in Grand Bassa County was discovered recently in District # 1B when our reporter witnessed two beautiful football matches in Jacob Larteh Town, Teemor, Electoral District #1B in Grand Bassa County.

According to Mr. Emmanuel B. Scott, the Organizer of the league and Chairman of the Liberia Football Association Grand Bassa District #1 Sub-Committee, noted that the League is a Pilot Project of Grassroots Football in rural communities in the county. He narrated that the initiative is intended to develop and improve the talents of young people in rural areas like Teemor that is highly inaccessible due to road connectivity.

Mr. Scott told our reporter over the weekend in Jacob Larteh Town that the Grand Bassa County branch of the LFA is not supporting the Grassroots League but it is being done due to his commitment and love of the game, emphasizing the need for grassroots participation in football which he described as the surest way to building a strong County Meet team in Grand Bassa County.

Meanwhile, Mr. Scott has appealed to football lovers, eminent citizens and Business people of Grand Bassa County to support the ‘ Pilot Project ‘ of grassroots football in the county by donating sporting materials to participating teams to enhance and strengthen their participation. He named jerseys, footwear, footballs, etc. as items needed.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022 in game one, Jacob Larteh Town held Monden Town to a one all draw, while in game two, Saine Town trashed Mike Loryee’s Fahn Town two goals to zero in a mouth-watering encounter.

Football fans who spoke to our reporter following the games, expressed delight for the organization of the grassroots league, commended the organizers and hoped it would continue so that young people residing in rural areas will have the opportunity for outside exposure to improve their skills.
