-As Emirates Unveils Commitment for Hospitals, Rice Production, Ports and Others Liberia
IPNEWS: The President George M. Weah has secured huge bilateral gestures of goodwill from the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for the construction of three more hospitals, ports development, rice production, and others; a dispatch from Emirates said Thursday June 2, 2022.
The additional three hospitals will be constructed in the South East, Northern, and Central Liberia, while the ports of Greenville in Sinoe and Harper will benefit from the Emirati initiative.
The full value of the bilateral gesture is unknown, but the Information Minister said in a phone interview that a technical team from the UAE is expected to Liberia in the coming weeks, to conduct technical assessment for domestic rice production and ports development projects.
As part of the agreement,
Liberia’s Chief medical Officer Dr. Francis Ketteh is expected to visit UAE to hold talks with health authorities on the construction of the hospitals.
According to nformation Minister Ledgerhood Rennie, 15 Liberian health professionals including: doctors, nurses, pharmacists, surgeons and others are undergoing intensive training in Abu Dhabi to manage the Emirates Hospital constructed in Gbarpolu County.
The leadership of the Emirati government has also agreed to provide technical and logistical support to the 14 Military hospital, in Margibi County. The support will cover medical equipment and supplies, visiting surgeons, as will as other technical training for doctors.
For his part, President Weah thanked the government and people of UAE, and expressed Liberia’s determination to expand corporation with the UAE through constructive partnership and bilateral engagements, to further strengthen the already subsisting friendship of both countries.
At the same time, President Weah has conveyed his condolences to the leadership and people of UAE over the passing of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and recalled the track record of the late president and his role in the comprehensive development drive in the UAE.
The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also expressed his thanks and appreciation to President Weah for the expression of sincere feelings over the death of the late Sheikh Khalifa, former President of UAE, and towards the UAE leadership and people.
Last year, the Liberian leader visited UAE and held talks with leaders UAE, leading to what is now an ultra modern state of the art hospital in Gbarpolu Country, Western Liberia.
The completion of the hospital, which is a flagship project of President George M. Weah, marks a new dawn in Liberia’s health service delivery in one of the remotest parts of the country– a region deprived for many years.
The government of Liberia confirmed the completion of the 100 bed hospital, in Bopolu City, Western Liberia, after engineers implementing the project had told New Liberia (NL) in an exclusive interview last weekend.
The modern facility is a bilateral gesture of goodwill from the leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following a visiting delegation headed by President George M. Weah last year.
According to the bilateral agreement leading to the finalization of the project, the hospital upholds the humanitarian values and universal brotherhood cherished by the Leaders of U.A.E and their commitment to the people of Liberia. A statement from the Emirates government said.
According to the government of Liberia, the project focused on addressing major healthcare challenges Western Liberia is faced with.
The facility covers 52, 000 square feet, and powered solely by solar energy.
Inpatient wards, modern laboratory, operation theater, Intensive care units (ICU), internal medicine and pulmonologist department plus many more, set the facility apart.
