IPNEWS-Monrovia: Maryland County former Senator John Ballout says the former ruling Unity Party (UP) needs the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Benedict Cummings if the party is to retake state power in 2023.
Appearing on the popular 50-50 Talk Show on Sky FM 107.1 on Monday, February 21, 2022, Senator Ballout says now is not the time for the CPP to breakaway over petit issues but rather hold together in their quest to make President George Weah a one-term president in 2023.
He says the former Unity Party needs Alexander B. Cummings of the ANC, as well as other like-minds parties for the race in 2023. Senator Ballout says the withdrawal of the UP from the CPP is unfortunate and not in the interest of the CPP.
According to the former Senator, supporters of UP, ANC, ALP and LP need to stop talking negatively about their politically leaders because that is not in the interest of the opposition bloc. He calls for unity and hard work if the opposition is to pose a challenge to the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) in 2023.
On why he thinks the UP needs ANC Cumming badly, Senator Ballout says the ANC political leader has worked very hard to reach where he is in Liberia politics and he brings new dynamism and spirit to the body politics of Liberia, something the UP needs if it wants to retake stake power in 2023.
He believes all is not lost as the UP and the ANC along with the other two CPP members, Liberty Party and All Liberia Party can still mend fences and join forces to challenge the CDC in 2023 just as it was done in 2020 for the Senatorial Midterm Elections.
Former Senator Ballout says UP standard bearer, Joseph Boakai is the ‘most electable face’ within the CPP while ANC standard bearer, Alexander Cummings is the most ‘competent face’ within the CPP, and if they were to combine on one ticket, the CDC government will not get reelected.
Recently UP standard bearer, Joseph Boakai pulled his party out of the CPP for what he terms the failure of Mr. Cummings to add meetings to resolve issues within the CPP, and his inability to resolve crisis within the CPP. The former Vice President has come under public criticism for pulling out of the CPP, but his supporters say he is right to pull out of the CPP due to the crisis.
