IPNEWS – Monrovia: The former Honorary Consul General of India to Liberia, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, has been told “a very big thank you” by authorities of the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP) for “putting smiles on the faces of the inmates population and the entire work force at the prison.”
In a letter of gratitude to Mr. Sachdeva, who is more commonly known in Liberia, as “Jeety”, the Superintendent of the MCP, Colonel Varney G. Lake, extended heartfelt thanks and appreciations to him and his organization for the level of supports rendered to the MCP over the year.
Commander Lake recalled that last October, during Mr. Jeety’s monthly, regular feeding initiative at the MCP, they had informed him of the numerous challenges, including getting water to all of the barracks of the facilities, within the MCP compound.
When Mr. Jeety had gone to do his regular monthly feeding at the prison in October, he had promised and assured the prison authorities that before his next visit in November, all the facilities that needed to have safe, drinking pipe-borne water would have it. Sure to his words, the prison now has it.
“In your response, you promised the prison authority that before the end of November 2021, all of the housing units in the faciity will be able to have access to running water. A week after the pronouncement, you led a team of engineers and members of the your staff to do an assessment at the facility and subsequently the work began. As we speak, water now runs in all of the housing units, the clinic, bakery and other sites that needed water,” Commander Lake said.
In addition to the water restoration, Jeety included two 500-liter poly tanks for water storage and also presented one 5.5-KVA generator that the facility can use to pump water to the tanks whenever electrical power supply from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) is out. Also, along with generator, Mr. Jeety installed one submersible deep bore hole pump to impel the water from the well up to the tanks.
“In this regards that the leadership of the Monrovia Central Prison in consonant with the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitations (BCR) headquarters do fervently write to recognize, appreciate and say a very big thank you for putting smiles on the faces of the inmate population and the entire work force at the prison,” Commander Lake concluded in his letter to Mr. Jeety.
Addressing reporters at his Vai Town office Tuesday, December 14, Mr. Jeety, who is a well known Indian businessman and philanthropist said, his commitment to serve humanity in Liberia remains uncompromised as long as God keeps providing his needs.
He didn’t give the cost of the water restoration project but insisted that everything he does, is “from the bottoms of my heart. My dream is to positively impact everyone irrespective of religion or other statuses,” Dr. Sachdeva said.
