MCSS students to pay government stipulated fees starting Monday

IPNEWS: As the Ministry strives to provide affordable and quality education for all Liberians, the Ministry with support from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has reached an agreement to subsidize the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) for smooth operation and to reduce their registration fees to the approved and sanctioned MoE registration fees stipulated in the Academic Calendar of 2021/2022 school year.

However, the Acting Minister, Hon. Latim Da-thong stressed that all MCSS schools are to revert to the approved registration fees stipulated starting effectively Monday, November 22, 2021. He also added that all those who have paid above the stipulated amount will be refunded. Refunds will be processed by January, 2022.

The MoE approved registration fees that the MCSS has been instructed to abide by are as follow:

  1. Elementary Division (grades 1-6) $1,000.00LD;
  2. Junior High Division (Grades 7-9) $2,000.00LD;
  3. Senior High Division (Grades 10-12) $3000.00LD).

However, the Acting Minister has commended the Minister of Finance for his prompt intervention by providing a stable and financial solution for the return of MCSS teachers to the classrooms. Hon. Da-thong also said that the Ministry will continue to work with the Ministry of Finance to fast track and to improve the education system when it comes to budgetary support.

In the same vein, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah assures the MCSS schools that the Ministry will now fully subsidize the MCSS Schools to be well functional and operational. Minister Tweah also assured the teachers that their concerns will be taken care of, and additional support will be given to MCSS schools.

Moreover, in attendance were: the Acting Minister of Education, Hon. Latim Da-thong, the Minister of Finance, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah, Hon. Adolphus Jacobs, MCSS Superintendent, Janga Kowo, Comptroller General of Liberia along with the President of the MCSS School teachers amongst other dignitaries.

During the meeting of the MCSS teachers, Hon. Latim Da-thong assured and encouraged the teachers that they are role models, nation builders and professional individuals. And as such, they should be very patriotic and demonstrate love for country by going the extra miles for the growth, development and sustainability of our education system.

Therefore, the Acting Minister was quick to realize that teachers have concerns and responsibilities to be catered for. He then commended the teachers for their professionalism, sacrifices, commitment and love for country in molding the minds of the future leaders of our country.

Finally, Hon. Da-thong said that all MCSS’ counts will be settled in the soonest possible time, and he appealed to them to return to their classes as the Ministry works with the Ministry of Finance to fast track the operational cost of all MCSS schools to put smile on the faces of the teachers.
