IPNEWS: The Opposition Coalituon of Political Parties (CPP), internal crisis looks far from been over.
A major contender for the standard bearer-ship of the CPP, long time Coco-cola executive, Alexander Cummings has turned down an invitation from the former ruling Unity party to attend it’s endorsement convention for its proposed standard bearer for the ensuing CPP primaries.
A communication to Unity Party’s Chairman Amin Modad Chairman, Cummings stated that he is constrain to turned down the invitation due to ‘number of concerns with
the process which led to the program. In particular, the action to derive an aspirant for the position of CPP Standard Bearer through a process outside of a national convention falls short of the Core Values of the CPP as stated in section 3.1.2 “Good governance’.
Cummings letter read: “Dear Chairman Modad:
Thank you for the invitation to attend a program described as marking the endorsement and
presentation of Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai as the Unity Party’s Aspirant for the Standard Bearer
of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP).”
“I also acknowledge the spirit of collaboration represented by the invitation. However, I am constrained to decline your invitation at this time due to a ‘number of concerns with the process which led to the program. In particular, the action to derive an aspirant for the position of CPP Standard Bearer through a process outside of a national convention falls short of the Core Values of the CPP as stated in section 3.1.2 “Good governance’. including in particular
Inclusiveness, Participation, Accountability and Transparency”. This selection also runs contrary to the Guiding Principles of the CPP which provide for the
creation of “an enabling environment of upholding the tenets of democracy including respect for
the Rule of Law and human rights”, and has the potential to expose the CPP to public ridicule.”
To the Alternative National Congress (ANC), the Core Values and Guiding Principles of the CPP are
not without legal force and moral effect. In addition, they define the deeper values of our commitments to each other, and our pledge to the Liberian people for a better Liberia. Therefore, the ANC believes each constituent member of the CPP must act, at all times, to uphold
and adhere to the rule of law, including the laws which govern our respective partie.” ANC Alexander Cummings communication read.
Meanwhile, there has been no reaction to Mr. Cummings letter from officialof the Unity Party, up to press time. But a lead supporter of Ambassador Joseph Boakia, talkshow host Henry Costa, termed the communication a show of ‘madness’.
In a related development, barely an hour to the Unity Party Endorsement program of Amb. Joseph N. Boakai today as its official candidate to lead the CPP in 2023 Presidential Election, angry group of Unity Party Partisans are currently protesting at the party Headquarter Calling for the resignation of UP Chairman Amin Modad.
